    Salvage grocery store. Gold mine?

Its come to my attention salvage grocery stores have been popping up all over America. It seems like a great opportunity to me seeing as how im in Illinois and according to TIME magazine, theres only 2 throughout the whole state.
Now obviously the economy is at a bad time now, do you think people would frequent my store if opened up? Would you rather buy off brand food for cheap, or name brand food for dirt cheap thats either close to exp. date, or has damage to the packaging.
I duno, it seems like a great startup business that has very minimal start up costs compared to other business's.
Whats your guys take on this?

If you are interested, why not go and take a look at the other store in your state?

In my opinion, i would rather stick to the big chains.
Also, are you able to get a wide enough range, and enough stock for people to shop there?

Just something to think about. If you have answers, i would love to hear them.

    Jake.

Actualy inventory is the least of my worries.
Theres alot of wholesale grocery liquidators, ill just have to weed out the scams.
The groceries come in things called "bannana boxes"
These range from 6-15$ dollars. Each bannana box contains a good amount of products. These bannana boxes come on pallets. Each pallet will have 48 boxes.
Heres an example of some bannana boxes

Look up bannana boxes on google to see examples. They wont let me post URLs

I think it could be a very good idea. There are several in my area that do pretty well. The main problem is that they do not keep their place of business nice and neat and people are turned off. You have to expel the myth that the food is somehow bad, the best way to do this is to have a clean and well lit store. The best sellers in most of these stores are the non food items such as soaps, ziploc bags, foil etc because people know they are not "bad".

This is a great area to get into with the economy where it is and i say go for it.
