Running Away From Home

I'm contemplating about running away from home. Yeah usually this is what like a 10 year old would do... and I really don't want people to start asking "why are you wanting to run awaY", usually it's teens who are "running away from there problems". And yeah that has something to do w/ it, no i'm not a retard, no i'm not a spoiled kid hoping his parents will feel guilt if i do it.

I am a normal 17 year old, a senior in high school. Yeah one more year and i'd be able to leave anyway right... well i'm just wondering if any of you have had this experience, and what you've learned from it. I figure getting a place to stay would be hard as a 17 year old runaway, but i have friend in college i could stay w/ if it came to that. As for a steady income... getting a job as a runaway would be hard too huh... and transportation also... only thing I can figure is maybe some small e-commerce till I can set things up.

But if I could get an apt, w/ a computer, cable... a small part time job for food and the bills... and concentrate all my focus onto my Entrepreneurship... haha it seemed like a really good idea... but maybe it was because i was fuming after the fight.. but anyway I wanted to know what people who share the same financially successful interests as I do... think about running away...

Any help AND criticism will be greatly appreciated... i don't suggest running away from home in any way... i just need some feedback...

Thanks,
Andrew

I think it may sound like a short term fix to your problems, but in the long run it will hurt you. As a young person it helps if you can keep your parents on your side.

Do not use School or your Parents as an excuse not to become an Entrepreneur though keep persisting and you will come out on top!

Do your "time" for six or seven more months, graduate and than pursue options on your own. Use all the time you are not in school to learn as much as you can and start your first business!!

Hey! Sorry no I didn't go through with it, it seemed like such a good idea when I was pissed but thanks for the advice. I've gotten interested in real estate and want to get the license at 18 so I can start meddling around in that area, and for now... i'm joining up with a friend at school to create a web design company. Then on my own time i'm gonna try setting up an eBay store of some sort.

Running away would have added another huge ass problem and set me back... even though things aren't so great w/ my parents i'd rather be here than out there. Thanks for the responses and i'll be sure to stick around and learn all I can from this site. Tough part is not having a ride at my age. And financing a motorcycle at age 17 w/o a job and no credit... is hellish.

I doubt my parents will co-sign to finance so whatever... psch i better start learning eh... maybe i should get a job on the side.

Thanks again guys,
Andrew

Alright well, i'm 18 in May. Bit of time from now to then. I need some people to influence me and i need to get some real life education instead of wasting years in classes not doing anything.

Steve, is there anything I can do officially in the world of business at this age, or will I have to wait till i'm 18.

I suppose I could do some E-Commerce, but I don't have my own credit card.

To work the stock and foreign exchange markets... i need to be 18, can't take out loans or anything for startups.

Hmm... real estate is something I plan on doing after a healthy cashflow.

I need help just "getting started" you know just need that little push to get me going.

Any ideas?

You need to set yourself goals. Make sure they're managable and lead you to where you need to be going. One of your first goals could be to document how your new business would work. You could research the legal side of things, contact another real estate business, design your website etc. etc. Make sure this is all marked out on a big sheet of paper with the key milestones and dates running up to your 18th birthday. Each time you complete a milestone take a big fat marker and cross it off the chart. You'll start to get a feeling of success as you complete each task and it'll put you in a good position to really do something once you can.

I think you may be getting caught up in trying to do too much, too soon! Break it down, take it one step at a time and you'll get there. You also need to start looking at your finance situation. What income do you have? What more could you do to get cash? How are you spending your money? What will you need to run your business? Your general attitude towards money and doing things is what will make or break you. Keep reading this site and any other business info you can. You're learning all the time!

Good luck, too!

Hmm... very sound advice. Thanks for it! The idea of goal-setting and obtaining that sense of accomplishment was something I frowned upon beforehand, and would think it no big deal to "waste time doing such childish things".

But i've learned setting goals is an essential part of doing anything. You get lost many a times on the path to your goal and never really realize all you've accomplished.

It's tough to do but I'll try to get on that right away. Thanks for the help.

As far as a source of income, do you think it ok for me to take a part-time job at a retail company such as Circuit City. There is a new location near my place and a friend who works there is going to get me a job if I like it. They pay $9.75 an hour but i'm more interested in gaining the experience of working and I hear they own some bank that is hard to get into but you get low rates and such if you're an employee.

So say I work 34 hours a week, just a few hours every evening during the week, instead of just wasting time not doing anything, I think it'll help me out. That's like 350 a week or so.

Few extra bucks to invest with i suppose.... =\
