    Wink Review My Book Please

    Hey all!

I shut down my original DoughStreet website (magazine) and now I made it into a place to host my e-book, Rules of the Rich. I'd like your feedback and opinions if you don't mind.

The book normally sells for $13.99 in paper-back (sold a few copies already) but I've decided to give it away online to make cash through Ads instead.

    www.doughstreet.com

Oh the thing is I'm not looking for feedback on the layout of the website really -- just the content of the book. I want to know SPECIFICALLY what you guys think. Do you agree, disagree? That kind of stuff, and if so with what.

    Thanks!

I read the first 3 pages or so. It reminds me very strongly of "think yourself rich".

Before you delve into thebook itself there should be some introduction, and why the reader should give you any credibility. I mean isn''t it the case that most people who are willing to teach you how to get rich are not rich themsleves? I think the author of "think yourself rich" died broke by the way.

This isn't a dig at you, its just that if you want people to read your book they have to have a reason to do so.

Oh yeah I fully understand where you're coming from. But first of all...it's free! I mean I sell it too, but it's not like I'm getting anything off anybody. It would be obvious from that, that I'm not scamming ...because no money is being exchanged, really.

But uh, yeah, I think I explained it somewhere in the prologue? I wrote it with my mentor. He's a milllllllllllllllllllllllllllionaire! These aren't MY rules.

Hey Harry, the ebook looks great. I love how you stress the importance of reading books to become rich. The more knowledge you know, the better equipped you will be.

    yeah....well...

it's a good effort, but it has two flaws

    1) lack of differentiation - it's just like the other million self help books out there...there is absolutely no reason why I would buy it...it's just ramblings and reflection....I'd give it a 5 second glance and put it down because of point 2

    2) the standard is not suitable for anyone with above a high school level education

Just go and pick up a personal finance textbook in your library

both the books help people solve personal finance issues

compare your book with any standard text given to financial planning students...

it's sort of like this....when I read a book, any book, the bio of the author is very important to me....I simply wouldn't read anything written by a non-professional

for me, i'd really need to see a lot of name dropping and quant analysis

ooodles of graphs, charts and regressions

anything less i just wouldn't read...

You can't be totally original. There are just some common points you can't avoid. People enjoy certain things. It doesn't matter if the information is the same or similar as before; they'll love it as long as it agrees with their ideals, and furthermore if they can relate to it.

You'll notice this theme in hollywood. But does anybody say anything? No. Because repetition is a successful formula. Does anyone care that every CGI movie coming out is exactly the same idea? Does anyone care that we know exactly what is going to happen in Spiderman 3 but will still go anyway? Of course not. People just go for the entertainment.

And its the same with most (well selling) books. People look for the entertainment value. They look for things that will evoke emotions. And that's what the book, in part, provides.

    2) the standard is not suitable for anyone with above a high school level education

That has nothing to do with anything. Mass market items aren't targeted toward highly sophisticated readers. When have you ever seen an economics book by John Maynard Keynes gets on the New York Time's Best Sellers (list) anyway?

You can't use yourself as a benchmark. That's completely bias. You're way ahead of the general public on these issues or way of thinking -- probably this whole community as well. Of course you would dismiss it! You're a hard nosed and facts-only type of guy. Kind of boring if you ask me, but it's totally different when you're a beginner or looking purely for motivation. This book suits that need.

Plus it's free. You don't even have to buy it.
