This is something I've brought up a couple of times, and would like to see some action on. There is a fair number of redundant threads separated by 1-3 pages in most of the main categories here. This is a result of new people joining the site and asking some basic questions that are typical of new entrepreneurs. This reduces the quality of the threads and makes it annoying to answer the same questions over and over again (thus reducing the chances of the newbies finding the appropriate answer).
I propose a FAQ section that is part live/part static depending on the particular question. Here are some proposed topics, based on threads I've seen more than twice:
- Company structure: what's right for me (U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, others)?
- Hosting plans: where to determine what's right for me?
- Clothing company startups: where can I source my clothing?
- What do you do? (Bios managed by the users)
- What mistakes did you learn most from?
- Where should I look for ideas?
- Where can I find a good/cheap graphic/web designer?
- Where can I get business cards from?
The owners/mods can take requests from members to write up a particular FAQ and then verify its correctness before publishing it. Some of these could simply by running threads in the section that are added to by the users (eg. the mistakes FAQ and the bios).
Anyone else think this is a good idea? Would you be willing to help? I'd write up the company structure section tradeoffs for Canada and can make a hosting one.
