reason for starting business
hey, i just want to know why everyone started their business. for the money? the joy of being your boss? anything.
I have started one business, and it wont be the last, but when i die, i want to be known for jumpstarting the econemy and the amount of jobs in my town. I have this dream, basically that i want to be providing as many jobs as i can possibly do.
I have thought about how it would be sorta cool, if i went throwback and started a town based around my businesses, sorta like those mill towns.

I just like it. I've enjoyed doing my own thing, and building it up.

I've always started my businesses with the idea of immediate satisfaction and eventual money.
I love working for myself, but it just so happens that I've found a passion in a business where, given enough time, I'll be making a lot of money.
I like your idea of having a "mill town"-like effect on your hometown. Creating jobs is an excellent goal.

I seem to start my businesses because I am always thinking, testing, wondering. I am one of those people who are always dissecting everything and trying to see how it works, how it can be improved, expanded etc.
My first business was simply creating a way for me to branch off onto my own. I already worked in the line of work, but I wanted to go bigger and provide a higher level of service.
Then once I had succeeded ito do this, my mind keeps going, and I expand even more. Even my current way of doing things gets inproved, expanded and branched off.
I seem to create new rather than adjust what I already have. Take my web hosting company for example. I started it to fill a need, then expanded it to fill other needs. Then when I saw that there were even more needs to be met within the hosting community, instead of expanding the current offerings, I created another hosting company.

It's funny. I always get more excited thinking about ways to make money and making it than thinking about ways to spend money. Whats the point of making it if you don't really care about spending it?
I dunno, maybe I like the smells of the green bills.

For me, it was a combination of factors. The job market isn't what it used to be, I needed a more flexible schedule, and all the other reasons I tell people. But the truth? Simple....
POWER. That's it. Power. Not the corrupting, Mr. Burns kind of power, but the power to control my own destiny. The way I see it, I have the power to do as well (or as poorly) as I choose. Yes, market conditions and other factors beyond my control can have a huge impact. But, at the end of the day, the power to change it is in my hands.
Oh yeah, and I want to rule the world, too.....

I've read all the above responses...tried to place myself in those mindsets...what I've come to realize is that I have no idea why.
All of them are good reasons, all of which I strive for as well - but...I don't think I can pinpoint it. It flows in my blood - I'm born with the urge to do this. No wordly factor seems like the definitive reason for my being this way.
This is me. I am. ;o)

Like Eric I have always had the drive to own my own business. My dad owns a construction company and always encouraged me to work for myself.
I started my current business as a matter of necessity. I had one of those "secure 9-5" jobs as an IT Manager, then went in one Monday and was told the company was heading in a different direction and I wasn't part of it. I looked around for another job that could pay me what I wanted to be paid, and when I didn't find one, I created one.

I think that im quite similar to Eric. its just in ME!
My parents are the perfect defintion of a "9-5" worker and was shocked when I said I plan to do Business in College rather than IT(Computers).
Everytime i see something like a services, I think how i can manifest it or offer a better one. I cant really explain but I just love the world of busienss. Thats why Im happy that i found Ye.com!
