    Personal Mentoring

    Hey guys,

What do you think of the business/personal coaching programs by Trump University or Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad? Anyone currently in one their programs?

    Kiyosaki: http://richdad.com/catalog_resources/coaching/

    Trump: http://www.trumpuniversity.com/progr...hing/index.cfm

    it's all crap

what founders need are deep personal contacts in the industry and plenty of repore with other entrepreneurs

taking this trump and kiyosaki bullshit into a real workplace is beyond comical

    try it, and you'll see

mentoring is best done in the workplace rather than anywhere else

I use Wealthy Affiliate. And there are a few reasons of why you should join wealthy affiliate.

    1. It is the Internet Marketing University. You actually learn from 2 of the top marketers on how they bring in so much money a day

    2. They have personal coaching and internet marketing support

    3. Lots of great resources to learn how to make money

If you click on my referral link in my signature and decide to join, I get paid for it. It is $29.99 a month, but well worth it. Only join if you plan to be a serious internet marketer. So basically if 2 people sign up by clicking on my referral link, I get the money back that I paid to become a wealthy affiliate member. If more join, then I profit from it. We hope you join.

Since I offer a mentoring service myself, I'm all for mentoring.

That sounds great and all, but I think what I need is someone who I can contact to ask for business advice and so on and also pointers. I definitely don't want to make mistakes that can be avoided.

Look for someone in the same industry as you, if you're looking for a general Mentor. I personally use Mentors with specific expertice in business areas, like PR, Advertising, Legal, etc.

I currently don't have a general mentor, nor one that I can call upon for leadership issues. THe right mentors are worth their weight in platinum in my humble opinion.

    Sam is absolutely right.

Look at what these coaching shops offer:

Your Rich Dad Coach will help you:

    * Build a personalized financial and CASHFLOW plan.
    * Discover your Mission, Passion and Purpose
    * Create an individual strategy to become secure, comfortable, and rich.
    * Map out where you want to go and what you’ll need to do to get there.
    * Build a personalized investment strategy to help you get into the “B” and “I” quadrants.
    * Set your plan in motion—so that becoming rich is an automatic process.

The first point is, of course, that these coaches are legally prohibited from giving financial advice and draftying personal financial plans (i.e. points 1, 3,4 and 5), because they're unlinced and the SEC (and other regulators like ASIC) require a licence.

The second point is, with mentors, they're not there to help the mentoree "Discover your Mission, Passion and Purpose". Mentors are there because they're a liaison which help the mentoree access resources and career opportunities. A typical mentor will be a contact point who'd introduce you to a new customer, a good lawyer, or smooth out an argument with shareholders or what ever.

In other words, for a mentor to work in their function, they have to be actively engaged in the industry and belong to the same community. You can't get mentored by strangers, because being a stranger disqualifies a person from being a useful mentor.

That is absolutely right. They are not mentors, they are just selling a product/service designed to make them profit. Whether you buy it or not depends if what they offer translates into good value for you.

I went to Tony Robbins mastery university in Fiji, where I picked up strategies from John Gray on relationships, Peter Lynch on finance and Colin Powell on leadership, amongst others.

This was sold as coaching, not mentoring, although you do receive calls from coaches to ensure that you're implementing right for months after; which others could pass as mentoring.

The fact that people like Nelson Mandela and Oprah Winfrey pay, or have paid Tony USD$1 Million per year to coach them was good enough reason for me to think that I could also benefit; having said this, he does recruit from teh creme of the creme in each of the aspects of the training that he sells, which means you're more likely to get excellent quality advice/coaching.

Its not cheap, but its worth the money

That is absolutely correct, they aren't bothered about the person they are bothered about the profits!

If they wanted to offer mentoring services then they wouldn't be doing it in the way they are currently especially how i get alot of emails from that trump university but my email account detects it as spam now so i don't see it as much as it used to.

I would have to agree with sam... if you are in need of a mentor, you would be far better off looking at a retirement community, then taking any advice from:Trump University or Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad.

I second this. Contact your local SCORE office and see what the voice of experience can offer you.

Personally, I lucked into connecting with a professional mentor a few years back and it was amazing. I felt like spending an hour with him was worth more than six months in school. The problem with many of the mass produced mentoring programs like Kiyosakis is that 90% of the words coming out of their mouths are fluff and filler. If they just got to the freaking point it might be useful. 8 minutes long, but a useful 8 minutes.

For clarification the following comment: "That is absolutely right. They are not mentors, they are just selling a product/service designed to make them profit. Whether you buy it or not depends if what they offer translates into good value for you." Does NOT agree that the aforementioned "mentors" are providing good value for money.
