    Online Business?

    So
people everywhere talk about online businesses that they have and everything, but it's such a vague term... what does everyone mean by online business? Do you sell stuff on ebay or other similar sites? Do you have your own website that you sell products on?

What type of online endeavor is good for a college student like myself? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

There are many examples of "online" business. Some websites sell products, Amazon, com sells books, for example. Others sell advertising, Google is an online business that charges it's customers for advertising. You can go to their website (you'll have to sign up, it's free) and view an entire afternoon of tutorials on how their business works. Ebay is another good example, they run auctions. Still other sites generate revenue from membership fees.

You don't have to develop a new way to "charge" people, just a package that charges for products, advertising, a membership, or a commission on services.

If you were looking to sell products, look into drop-shipping; probably the hardest to start tho. I would recommend starting with taz's examples first.

I do a lot of ebay myself, I am a college student, I think there is a perception that using ebay is amateur compared to having a website, I could argue otherwise, and if you dont have tons of time and money to waste on advertising ebay is great. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

We sell on Ebay and a lot to the others that sell on Ebay. I consider it a online business and although we do have a website up, its a basic informative site.

Online business not much different than real world, in terms of what is "sold". It can be physical products, services, digital goods, other online businesses (think Flippa), etc.
Idea for college student? Hmmm.... try to come up with an idea that solves a problem -- by thinking about what students need or are always complaining about.

It's like saying I'm in real estate. It doesn't mean anything because there are 101 types.

    - Affiliate marketing
    - Product creation
    - Selling on eBay
    - Selling on Amazon
    - Cost per click marketing.
    - Google adsense

the list goes on and on so I don't want to give you a million options.

I think it is more important that you identify what you really want to be doing.

What do you want your business to look like? Do you want to be on camera? Do you want it to be automated? What are your hobbies and interests? Do you have advice that would genuinely help someone in health, wealth or a hobby?

These questions will give you a starting point for what you should be selling and how you should be selling it
