    Nominations: Coolest Member YE Award

hey guys, we really should do annual awards for distinguished members, or something...and have the winner's profile promoted in our signatures.

coolest member nomination: Awarded to the member who is most consistently with it.

I nominate MsNadi. Read Nadi's blog. I reckon she's heaps cool!

Nadi, you always make me smile, and I think you are really hip

    Any contenders?

If I may, I'd like propose the nominations be split into different categories:

    Best advice: Nigami Enterprise

Most Valuable Contributions (AKA prize for no-bullshit advice): Akula

    Youngest Entrepreneur: who is it?

Most Active member: site owners will know...

etc. It would be great also to see if we can track how some of the members have been getting on and recognise their achievements. It can only improve the community's standing.

Akula, have you proposed this to the site owners?

Lads I've been off the site for a while, I took a bit of a break and came back. Its unbelievable how low the quality of threads are on these forums. They have huge traffic but community isn't great and general knowledge either. I don't want to just criticise it without proposing a solution but I have to. I have no ideas just feel frustrated at how bad the posts are on the site. Its quite difficult picking out best poster, theres a handful of decent posters on here, the rest seem to be just spamming and clogging up the boards. What do you think?

I know what you're saying. Some of the questions and responses are a bit silly. Well the spam hasn't be so bad. I think the moderators are doing a good job. How do you think we can solve this problem?

I concur with 4-Knots, the quality of the posts is making the whole thing look like Jerry Springer for Would Be Entrepreneurs. It is difficult, but not impossible to raise the ante on the posts. We could try any number of things that could include (but not exclusive to):

1- Ask the site owners to put a FAQ page up. This should reduce the instances of people asking the same questions over and over.

2- Become a little more active in reporting spam and bad posts. A little low, I know, but sometimes you just have to roll your sleeves up.

3- We could, of course, ask the moderators to become a little more active on the spam front too.

4- A page for links to resources would also reduce instances of the same questions from being repeated, as well as add value to the community as a whole. There have been a number of very valuable links posted, covering numerous subjects, it makes sense to have one.

Overall, it is my humble view that this online community needs to redefine itself; decide if it wants to be over-run by an element of discord, apathy and rubbish that has nothing to do with entrepreneurship, or if it wants to forge forward as a community of young entrepreneurs here to learn from each other, teach one another, and provide support to those who need it.

We are a community and it is up to the community to decide how its future will be shaped.

the spam and poor quality posts has been bothering me for awhile, and its gone to the stag where I couldn't hold it in any longer and started lashing out at any substandard posts.

Its unfortunately as well as when I joined this community, only great posters and good advice was given, I have no idea how it got to this stage and for proof of sub standard posts, just goto the homepage and count how many "good" posts there are.

I'd nominate Akula for best advice

Wait actually, wouldn't it be better to give like 5 or 10 categories, so that we can nominate properly? for example

    Coolest member
    Best advice given
    Best contributions

    etc etc etc
    Australian SEO Blog
Insomnia, the causes and cures - Information for people suffering from insomnia
Online Library - Read About different niche topics
Zelogic Directory - Get page rank 6 links here
UtilityStor Directory - Page Rank 5 Links
MiiM Directory - Page Rank 3 links here

Talking about nado i haven't seen him around here for a while. Anyways akula i liked your concept but i like now the additions to the concept instead of just one for the coolest member we sohuld have them for:-

    Coolest Member
    Best Contributions
    Best Advice

etc,etc and then we will have a poll for each after a shortlist for each post has been created and then the winner of each one will be able to put it in their signature or somewhere on their profile etc

My personal belief is that the mods (in general, not picking on anyone) let too much spam/poor posting pass. Quite frankly, I think you should have a spam forum and any posts about "business opportunities" that appear at all non-legitimate or MLM related or spammy in general should be moved there. Or, I would also be happy if the mods just started deleting the junk posts altogether.

I realize it's a grey zone between legitimate business opportunities and spam, but I think the mods need to have far more stringent standards when deciding what is spam and what is not.

Also, there are a lot of really poor posts that make it through and do not get deleted.

Examples of poor threads that should be locked or deleted IMO:
    http://www.youngentrepreneur.com/for...ad.php?t=12987

http://www.youngentrepreneur.com/for...ad.php?t=13240 (should have been searched first)

http://www.youngentrepreneur.com/for...ad.php?t=13204 (blatant spam in the general business forums, should go in a spam forum, or at least business opportunities forum)

Well I or anyone else can't make another forum for "business opportunities" or "spam." The administrator decides that but we can always suggest ways to improve the forum so just keep them coming.

As far as the spam, I think its getting better but the moderators can't get every single thread. That is why the members should use the 'report spam' and let us know.

I agree with Bestmiller, we are a community and its largely up to us to help make it what it is.

However, we are going off the subject of the nominations. NJames is right with his idea of the short list and then the poll.

However, I think that perhaps the current nomination categories are rather limited. only three nomination categories. I am new here, so not sure which ones are the most appropriate.

Perhaps samples of the nominated people's advice should be linked to the nominations to allow people to understand why they are being nominated.

    Sam
