No man becomes rich unless he enriches others

I introduced myself on this forum a couple of weeks ago, and it's design has changed greatly - for the better. Anyway, before I begin posting, I want your views on something. On a quote.

"No man becomes rich unless he enriches others."

The full meaning isn't directly within the quote and it can be interpreted in a couple of way but I want your opinions, so tell me what you think!

its pretty much sums up the message of zig ziglar about the more and more people you help get what they want, the more the god will help you get what you want.

yours is better worded b/c personally i do not like to involve "god" in my business advertisement/marketing.

that quote sounds like something you would find in a fortune cookie. It does have some depth though depending on how you view it. In a religous fashion, the quote could refer to self enlightenment and how one person may not be happy unless he can share his knowledge with another.

Your quote is not speaking of physical wealth, or money. It is speaking in terms of ones being. You will not a be a "rich" or well thought of individual if you are selfish, greedy, unwilling to help others. Although these things are true, they technically don't have any direct correlation with your physcial wealth.

For example Michael Vick (professional football player) is rich beyond most of our dreams. Playing football for many millions of dollars a year sided along with multiple endorsments. However he is a person whom doesn't take the welfare of animals or others into his concerns and is now being sent to prison for it. He is not rich in character, but his physical wealth is greater than what many of us will ever reach.

While it's possible to give the quote a mystical interpretation, the simplest (and probably most appropriate within the context of this forum) is merely a statement of one of the basic principles of Capitalism. By producing or providing value to others (goods or services) you are likely to get value in return (or standardized tokens thereof, i.e., money.) If you don't produce something that other people value, don't expect to get rich. Exploring this exchange of value is how you determine what to sell, what and where your market is, how much you should charge, etc. While it might make you feel good to think about what the quote means in terms of your spiritual well-being, that factor is kind of difficult to reflect on a balance sheet.

Personally, I feel that it means you can't just get rich without adding value. Like Dan Kennedy says to think of equity. You have to deliver value to people to make lots of money. You can't get something for nothing.

"he is blessed if he is a blessings to others". I agree with Creadiv. For me, "riches" is not meant by material thing but rather an interpersonal being of a person. It is not being measured but rather be valued and appreciated.

It means "value for value." I can't explain it better than Atlas Shrugged can. One man gains value because he exchanged vakuables with someone who values them.

If you really want to stomp on "mystical" theory then you must take the quote for exactly what it says.

"You can't be rich unless you make somebody else rich."

Enrich does not mean provide a good or service that people value, it means to better something or to obtain wealth. I have never made people better by providing them a good or service, or have I ever seen anybody become rich from providing them with a good or service (other than the lotto).

The "most appropriate" and "simplest" explanation that you have given is interpretation . You decided to try to take the literal meaning of the qoute and give it a business interpretation, but you didn't take the literal meaning of the word enrich. Your interpretation took the definition to make better, or to obtain wealth and decided it meant to provide a good or service of value.

You have taken a defined word that has nothing to do with product and tried to make it look as if it did. You have said that your explanation is simple and correct and it doesn't have to do with spiritual well being. And although it made me "feel good" to define it that way my explanation isn't logical because I cannot put in into a spread sheet and get a total.

When in this context the definition of enrich more aligns with the spiritual thought proces. You simply defined the word enrich as to provide people with a good or services and not what it actually means. So next time when you decide to say that you have a simple and accurate explanation of something and that the other explanations are not as accurate, make sure that you use the correct definition of a word, and not your interpretation.

Just because you thought it doesn't make it fact.

The beauty of the quote is its simplicity and how it lends itself to differing interpretations. In my opinion, no one is right or wrong, each of us will take from it something different...

    Just my thoughts.

All your interpretations were very intersting, so thanks. I was looking more along the lines of value and marketing, but it's great to know what people think.

People spend money to get something in value. So if you can provide some kind of value to others and help them to solve their problems, improve them and enrich them, then you will get the money. People will take out their money from their pocket and exchange for your value.

Here's another quote - it sounds silly & facetious at first, but actually there's a lot of wisdom in it:

"Blessed are those who expect nothing, for they are never disappointed."

very true.....if you're born with many gifts and talents, you should share it with others....for you'll never be truly satisfied and fulfilled if you keep them all to yourself.
