New business! Is it passion or money ?? confused

This was the question bugging my mind for a long time.
Afterall why do people start a new business....

I want venture out 'coz i want to make money...

But people also feel that , it is not only money.. but something more..
    entreprenuership is a "calling"..
otherwise it is really foolish to dump a nice paying job and start a new business...

Do i wait till i get that "calling" in me or start right away..

Guys help me with your valuable experiences.

    cheers

Starting up your own business does not solely means that you want to earn money or profit.

Before putting up your business you must first make sure you know all the ins and outs.

You can only master these ins and outs if you truly have the passion and the zest in your business.

Entrepreneur especially the starting ones should realize that business is not only for profit but it should also be a form of service.

There's a million reasons to become an entrepreneur. From freedom to passion I'm sure everyone you ask would have a different answer. Personally, I turned down a promotion to go my own way because I had an overwhelming desire to test myself without a safety net. My passion wasn't the business (at first) but nonetheless that passion has helped me through times I'd otherwise have been lost in.

From the other entrepreneurs I've met it seems that the passionate ones are more impatient and anxious to start as their baby is oh so far from how they want it to be, but as the years pass and they push through challenging obstacles, the passionate ones brim with confidence and enthusiasm as their business grows. The ones who started ventures just for the money seem to be happy for the first couple months but they usually disappear after a couple years because they baled out at the inevitable moment things got really rough, as they weren't willing to take big risks for the 'crappy business which was supposed to have made me rich years ago.'

The following study speaks volumes of the importance of passion.
In 1960 1,500 business school students were interviewed and classified in 2 categories. 1,245 were in it for the green while only 255 were planning on using the degree to pursue something they loved. Twenty years later the group was again interviewed and it was found that 101 of the students had become millionaires. All but one of those millionaires came from the 255 members of the passionate group.

Can you be successful without passion? Yes. Likely? IMHO no.

I started my own business at age 12, because no one would hire a twelve-year old. However through the years I have found greater joy and satisfaction working for myself then for someone else. The truth of the matter is in simple terms: "I rather drive myself then take the bus"

After working for yourself, although the work my be more stressful, longer hours and less pay, it is really hard to work for someone else. I have worked almost 32 years full-time, when I look back over the years, I have to say: I made a greater impact in peoples lives when I worked for myself.

Money is never a good reason to work, it may be a requirement, however if your doing it for the money you will find it never pays off.

Start a business, and then if you find you are not cutout for it, go find a job.

most successful entrepreneurs i know are doing what they're doing because their fathers are entrepreneurs and it's just a family expectation that they follow suit

sooo....the reason is a mixture of necessity and profit seeking

    don't do it

I highly discourage you from engaging in entrepreneurship

you really haven't experienced the sort of pain that comes with this occupation, so for me to encourage you in starting a business would simply be quite cruel

Winston Churchill: Inspirational Quotes on Wealth
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

What do you want to do in business? Are you looking for financial security, professional acknowledgment, spiritual attainment? Do you want to fit better socially, or become more expressive creatively?

Establish the goal that's right for you. Then turn that goal from a dream into a desire. You want to realize that goal, not just wish for it.

"Beware that you do not lose the substance by grabbing at the shadow."

Know exactly what you want, then go for it.

I am not convinced it is the means to your over coming your problem with the lack of business knowledge, however, you just might find something worth while.

Hey, cut it out. I'm supposed to be the negative one here.

    You're right though. Dammit.
