I think there is a fine line between constructive criticism and being an ass. That line has been crossed too many times. If I catch myself typing a criticism that isn't constructive and will serve no purpose other than to belittle someone else, I stop typing and bite my lip.

I believe that line should be drawn between commenting on the actual post/idea/business/issue/etc. and commenting on the person making the post/idea/business/issue/etc.

Agreed- the point of this site is to share ideas, learn, and help each other out, and sometimes to truly help you need to point out the room for improvement, or constructive criticism so we will all be able to constantly improve. This is not to be mistaken for just being rude and demeaning to others who may have just had a simple question, or on their own journey of learning and coming up in the entrepreneurial world. We just have to hope that many of the members here know the difference.

Best

If you're going to be an entrepreneur...you will face opposition. Every venture that I've been a part of, there have been plenty of naysayers. People that know you're up to something and that you are going after your dreams...a lot of them will tell you everything about how it isn't going to work or their opinions on how you should do things. Be an original! Don't let it get to you...there are a bunch of haters. Who cares!? Don't ignore what they say...just take notes and maybe they see something that you don't. No matter what...if you have hopes and aspirations...a dream that keeps you going...don't let anyone or anything get you down. Dream stealers...haha...just don't let them steal yours! In fact, many dream stealers are the same ones that tell you to get a degree and a good job. Why take their advice to begin with? You're going to let employees...the future of America (LOL)...give you advice about business?

Very true, but the underlying idea is that comments should be restricted to addressing issues, ideas, businesses, etc. and not to addressing the person providing the issue/idea/business, etc. Basically, say the idea is dumb, but not the person for coming up with it. This simple guideline would make this a much more happy little place while still providing an excellent resource.

I agree with Nam...

Every business I have ever been involved in seemed totally crazy to a lot of people and caused me to question my judgement...

You want "rude" you should have heard my Dad when I told him I was moving to the middle of Oregon and was going to sell custom jewelry over the internet! (no computer, camera, shop etc) I could hear him yelling 3000 miles away!

But "how" good information is given or comes across should be second to the content.

Nam also makes a good point about "dream steelers" but should add that it takes careful reflection and judgement on your part to see who is trying to help and who is trying to steel your dream.

most people don't know how to communicate properly. We need more facilitators and less arguers.

We need more people who stick to issues of discussion without moving on to addressing the people actually discussing the issues.
