Canada is considered one of the globe's top 10 wealth management markets. There were roughly 470,000 Canadian households with $1-million or more of investable assets in 2006, accounting for more than $1.5-trillion in total wealth. Projections are those figures will grow to more than a million households, worth more than $4-trillion, by 2016.

While much of this wealth is driven by a resource-based economy, there is another key factor at play: Nearly half of Canada's millionaires are business owners, according to Linda Bowyer, vice-president of national sales for TD Bank's Private Client Group. And many of them are considering retiring in the next 10 years.
