Dale,
I read that article the other day. Can you believe that? They negotiated it down to about $3,500, but still...ridiculous!

Funny, but not really. The guy wasn't well off to begin with, so this won't help his situation. I think that, yes, people should know what they're doing with regard to agreements they've entered, but I think there's an ethical issue here in the cell phone company not taking notice of the situation and notifying the customer earlier. What would you do if you received an $85,000 phone bill? I think that companies today don't consider moral/ethical issues enough. Regardless of how it affects the bottom line, I will NEVER take a dollar over doing what's right. Does anyone else feel that there a moral/ethical obligation trumps any profit opportunity? Maybe I am alone, but that doesn't change my conviction.

Jonathan, I couldn't agree more. Nowadays, it's all about the bottom line...damn the consequences! Like you, I also will not take money to compromise my convictions. This past summer I turned down a client who wanted to pay me $10,000 to write copy for a couple of his adult websites.
I still made money from him, but I did so without compromising my principles. You can read all about it here:

Anyone that sits around playing with their phone long enough to rack up a $85K bill for any reason needs to get a life to start with.

O, I totally agree with you. It is very sad that companies do this or are even allowed to do this. It does get me very upset. But you can't tell me you didnt get a good chuckle
