    Lunch?

I'm stiing here looking at a piece of pizza and thinking about the corned beef I had yesterday... then I'm thinking about the 2 hours I spent at the gym last night... I eat like crap each day for lunch...

How do you all eat healthy when you are working 10-12 hour days?

I eat like crap too. I think it's because of my busy schedule. I couldn't function each day without coca-cola.

I have my moments... I can do Subway for a week.. but that gets old.. I have health shakes some mornings.. sometimes I get salads... i wish someone would send me a list of what to eat for lunch every day of the week. 30 different lunches that each month I just repeat... lol... I'd follow it..

Wow - if you work out 2 hours a day at the gym, i wouldn't worry about eating like crap...
Personally, i have some instant oatmeal for breakfast when I get to the office, then for lunch I usually have a chicken caesar salad and dinner is usually a frozen meal (lean cuisine or stoffers) and a beer or two. Maybe its not the healthiest routine but i have eaten much worse during periods of my life...

Not sure how working long hours has to do with not eating healthy

2gould: its 1-2 hours 2-4 times a week... I need a damn bike in my office or something

SendBlast: it has more to do with being busy around lunch time.. If I could take an hour or two each day to sit down at a restaurant to get good food I would. Sometimes I'll be working and then look up at the clock and it'll be 2pm and I still haven't eaten anything.. next thing I know I'm ordering Chinese... or having one of my staff run to McD's...

    Yeah...

I know what you mean. I've improved quite a bit though, from the days of leftover pizza, energy drinks, and other junk food. I used to drink several Monsters a day, ordered pizza a lot, McDonalds, Burger King, etc. you know that good healthy stuff, LOL.

But I guess I didn't appreciate the luxury of being able to work at home. I also started feeling like even though I was working a lot, I wasn't as efficient as I thought I was. I made this thread a while back about how I wasn't able to balance life: Not having much time to hang out with friends...

The fact is, I realized Aletheides was right. It was sad that I wasn't balancing my life. So I set some goals. I'm still improving. I've been reading about how simply getting enough sleep and exercising daily can improve efficiency. I've stopped procrastinating.

I've overall learned how much healthy diet/exercise/relationships can improve my efficiency when I'm working. Instead of energy drinks, I occasionally have coffee, though I've been trying to cut it down to tea, and green tea. I used to go to sleep at 3am and get up at 8-9am. Now I go to sleep at 12 and get up at 6. I wake up a lot more refreshed, not needing as much caffeine, etc.

I've also been reading about MSG, high-fructose corn syrup, and all the artificial poisons that are so common in junk foods. I've become a lot more health-conscious since reading about how those kinds of foods effect my brain. I just got really disgusted with my habits and myself and decided to make some changes.

Having a menu doesn't help. I know exacly what I could eat every day, and could eat it with getting tired of it, yet I eat totally off the diet regularly. I work out, too, but not as cosistantly as I would like due to my profession (I am on the road now).

I was a high school/college wrestler. Diet and eating was more important than breathing at times.

I am from a large Italian family...yep, bread, homemade ravioli, pasta, and all that fun stuff. One day I just decided I was going to cut out all unhealthy carbs, sugars and fats (pasta, bread, sweets and butters) and switch to all natural meals and carbs from fruit olive oil/peanuts for fats, etc.

I am still with it 6yrs later, and everyday my routine is almost the same for in season wrestling:

5am Breakfast: Egg white omelet (leftover meat from dinner and/or vegetables) or hard boiled egg, one fruit, coffee (skim and splenda).

9am: Snack, a few steak tips/chicken from night before, or a piece of fruit.

12n lunch: Salad always, one day with tuna, another day with turkey, another day steak tip or chicken, etc, I mix it up. Some vegetables, cashews/pistachios/cashews take your pic, cheese stick, and a piece of fruit.

2-4pm'ish: A snack, either nuts again or granola bar, etc.

5-7ish Dinner: Meat/Chicken/Fish (depends), tons of vegetables (stir fry) and some fruit after.

All through the day it is water and some sugar free Red Bull. I try my best to not eat after 9pm, but if so, some peanut butter or whatever.

Yea, I am crazy...but for a real freak show, you should see old teammates constantly trying to make weight eating a spoonful of peanut butter and gallon of water for the day. I'm glad I was in the 189s-215s as you have more room, not the 125,30,35,45,50,60 classes.

18 hour days...also been trying to cut down my waist

Please feel free to comment, not sure if there are better ways...

Morning breakfast: 2 pieces toast w/soy margerine

Grab a Mt. Dew on my way in to the lab. (used to be 3-4 a day ~ 2Liters, now down to 1 a day)

Lunch: Meat sandwich and a piece of fruit, occasionally some potato chips.

Afternoon snack: 1.8oz. Jack's Links Beef Teriyaki strip, Rockstar 16oz Pomegranate Energy drink

Dinner: Meat sandwich (usually something better, but this week has been REALLY busy)

    Late night: one beer.

    Bri-

Next mtg. I can get you a list...a very easy beginner one that I put together when we were on the team before the season started and it kind wained you off certain superfluous items that made a huge difference. It isn't dramatic and it can make a huge impact.

Cool Guy, one thing about being uber busy is often the lack of time spent on thinking about what you are consuming and how that can impact your focus/mood/energy level.

Anything to help is greatly appreciated!

I was kind of waiting for Roy to get his site up! heh

    Cheers,
    Brian

Hye Guy... I wrestled in HS and boxed in the Marines (not the USMC team... I wan't all that great)... overall I have a decent to good diet... lunch seems to be my only problem. I eat eaither grits, rye toast, or a bowl of cereal with silk-milk in the morning. For dinner I'm chicken breasts and salads... I may go read meat when I'm out with clients 1-2 nights a week.

I have a fridge in my office... I need to stock it with healthy eats for lunch. Lunch is always an after thougt when I'm working... if I could get up from my desk and grab something decent from the fridge I think I could cut out the pizza and other junk.
