    Lessons learned from books idea

I would like to start a forum about lessons people have learned from books. Simply, you type in a book (or ISBN number) and then enter some things you learned from the book. Why?

I read alot of interesting non fiction books and highlight things that i want to remember, if everybody shared their highlights it would be a great source of information. I wish that I could look at the things people highlighted from books I am thinking about buying on amazon. What do you guys think about this idea?

Would you be interested in joining such a community?

Obviously at first I would have to fill the forum, write myself, but who here thinks that they would actually take the time to contribute to this forum?

    Hello ijohn,

Does it necessarily have to be "lessons learned" and all non-fiction books or more like an online book review club where people can just share their thoughts and information about books they are reading?

hey LSnyder, it does not have to be "lessons learned" on only non-fiction books, but that name (lessons learned) is what came to my mind when i was reading my last book and thought about making the forum.

An online book review club where people can just share their thoughts and information about books they are reading sounds perfect but aren't there many forums like this already? Any would you join one and contribute? Why or why not?

I'd like to hear from people that have actually made money from the lessons they learned in books. There's a lot of "feel good" talk out there, I rarely read anything that is set up as an instruction manual with a comprehensive and detailed plan that you can work to earn cash.

But, the idea is a great one imo. It's a great way to share knowledge, and a way to track success from the lessons would bee a nice touch.

    Hi ijohn,

Actually, I never thought to look up that type of website until now. I used to love to read! Yes. I would go to a website like that. They always use the most interesting part of the book on the cover to catch your attention and the book sometimes ends up completely boring and then i've wasted my money.
Yes. I would look out there for someone to refer a good book to me!

    Hi,

Sounds like a nice idea - and good forums are worth a lot of money. If you get this started up right - you could be make a little extra money on the side which would be nice .

Have you checked for other book forums?

nonrate: i'm talking about any non-fiction books, like "brain facts" for example, you read it and find a paragraph that talks about how exercise stimulates your brain and rewires it and you make a thread in the forum about that and other things you learned from the book "brain facts"

nonrate and LSnyder: I'm glad you guys think that this is a good idea. I would def want to read a forum like that too BUT, would you take the time to contribute? Do you see others also talking the time to contribute?

krissss: Yes, i did a bunch of searches on google and realized that there are many book forums out there. A lot of competition. But, I was not able to find a forum that is only interested in lessons people learned from the books they read. That is all i want to capture and talk about. Not interested in the author or how well the book was written or anything else, just the lessons you learned from the book you read.

One way I can see this succeed would be if I emphasize lesson not lessons, ask people to write a lesson they learned from a book, it could be one sentence, cuz i doubt that i will be able to get people to contribute a couple paragraphs on all the lessons they learned from the book they read, who wants to write so much, but one sentence might make sense, and if the book/thread is tagged correctly i can list all the lessons/threads people contributed to this book

maybe its worth a shot, its really hard to start a forum from scratch

I could be interested. Most of my reading these days is online. I imagine you'd be talking about quoting passages that would be relevant to helping you be successful with your goals?

For me to contribute to anything, I usually want to get some value out of it. In this forum, I try to pass my knowledge and experience along and what I get out of it is helping to seed the forum with good content so others will post their experiences that I could benefit from.

Like I said above, a lot of passages in books are more or less feel-good, inspirational and motivational in nature, which have little value to me. But, if there's a way to setup channels in the forum to separate the types of quotes, I'd be happy to contribute passages or highlights that I feel have helped me. I'd even try to go the extra mile to explain how it helped me out. Just let me know when you get the forum online.

I do see others that would want to contribute, but because you'd want to post passages as you find them, make the forum as easy as possible to get the data in there. As few steps as possible. That will keep someone like me from being discouraged from adding content.
