    keeping motivated

OK, I lotsa posts from 20 (or even 18+) something guys

    I had tread a different path; got myself great education;
worked for an MNC for more than 1/2-decade. Got
myself out from 8-5 routine and now in a start-up mode.

My Q to more mature folks (are there any, on this forum, other than 18+ and 20 somethings?)

How do you keep yourself motivated when you hit
bumps (major)? Sometimes, even family constantly
nags to take-up a job (getting myself another job
is not at all tough with my edu). I know, when I
am typing this msg, 'am in a "passing" but on
    a down-beat temporarily..

Would love to hear from you all.. Thanks!

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it,
no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own
reason and your own common sense.

To stay motivated, you need to develop a thick skin from critics. Keep knowledgeable about your projects. It should keep you confident about what you are doing and focused. Confidence will equal motivation.

Remember, critics will keep plugging away negativity. Work hard, succeed in what you are doing and you can "shit on their mashed potatoes" later. Just a saying my partner and I say to each other about haters. We got a list for our "shit" list someday.

Keep at it. Don't give up.

I would suggest looking up the word: Motivation on amazon.com for books and ranking it by bestselling if you need some extra help in this area. I have purchased many books from amazon that route and have only once been disappointed.

Drive is everything in the self-run business, not money, etc etc. You have to do what you are genuinely interested in, and what you truely want to do.

Motivation or lack there of is one of the things that weeds out weak entrepreneurs from the business world.

I know you're asking if there is anyone here not in their 20's....but what does age have to do with it? I would think experience would be a better factor. I'm just about to turn 24, I started becoming interested in entrepreneurship when I was 8, I started my first business when I was 15 (got licensed, paid taxes, everything was legit), I've never had a full time job, I've been 100% self employed for the last 3 years. I like to think that I have gotten pretty seasoned over the years. I've been through everything you mentioned.

Life has bumps, it’s inevitable. All you can do is prepare for them and anticipate them as much as possible. Make sure your desire for your goals is stronger than the desire to not incur those bumps.

On my website I have teamed up with a very reputable author/speaker who writes self motivation tips (among many other things), you should check them out, they might help.

    Cool

If you give up on your dream for a secure career, you will be comfortable and safe but you will probably live the rest of your life with regret.
If you try and follow your dream and it is not successful then at least you will not have to live with the regret of never trying in the first place.

You can't try... you either do or don't. Think about it...
try and pick up that pen on the desk... if you picked it
up then you didn't try, but you did pick it up... now if
you didn't pick it up, you didn't try... you simply didn't!
