I was wondering how sites get people to join when they first start out if nobody is a member yet.

For instance, say I loaded by site up for the first time and people come to look at if to see if they want to know and meet other people. Why would they join if they see nobody else has joined. (i.e. Myspace: I wonder how they did it the first day)

that's how social networking sites get critical mass

not that studentface spams anyone :-)

....the other way is sponsorships...paying people to register on the site
