Question Japan - the Atomic Bombs

I am watching this movie, White, on HBO, right now, about the atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

It's very heart painful just by watching it. And just the though of all the lives that were lost in this tragedy, looking at it makes me hate myself as a human being.

How can we, as humans, hurt and kill each other like this? And when i think about the current arm race going on now makes me even wonder what's happening with us, the human race.

As a business owner and entrepreneur, how do you feel about these past tragedy events and the current arm race? Can history like that of Hiroshima and Nagasaki repeat itself anywhere else? Can we stop anything like this from happening anywhere else?

It's very awful, looking at all these disabled and disfigured people they are interviewing in this movie.

Its all because of the fact that people dont realise their true origin. They do not understand that they owe a lot to nature and go on destroying it. It is all because of the greedy nature of every human being. Once a friendliness and a sense of brotherhood is cultivated from childhood, this will be rectified in the long run.

As an aside, my father is very old and he flew bombing missions against Japan and still feels like utter crap about them EVEN though his plane was shot up many times and he spent many missions just dropping life rafts and food to downed pilots in the Sea of Japan.

I think that any caring person would be upset over what does happen in war, what did happen and what is happening and what will happen in the future. As a species humans seem to be real good at killing each other and they are getting better every day at it. None of us can or should sit in judgement over what happened in World War II by bombing Japn, none of us truly understands the rabid devotion to the homeland that the soldiers of Japan had, nor how many US lives would be lost invading Japan. It was a decision that was made to spare the lives of US and Japan soldiers who would have died in the invasion. Yes, thousands of lives were lost and thousands more have died since because of it. But that is war. In no way am I saying lets do it again but when you are in a war with your enemy you cannot think about making it easy on them. When you are in a war you fight to win. In that time frame there were no such things as civilians. I cannot imagine the horror of such times and I hope that none of us ever have to again.

My grandfather also flew bombing missions in the Pacific campaign. He flew a B-29, and actually flew in the same squad as the Enola Gaye. I never got a chance to meet the man as he passed a good 10 years before I was born, but I would love to.

Also, I know that this may sound bad, and I realize the value of all human life, but I don't feel any regret for what we did. I realize almost all of the victims were completely innocent, but I feel what we did was necessary, and saved more lives than it killed. It showed the horrors of these weapons and destruction they can cause.

Just realize, that more lives would of been lost if we didnt drop the bombs in the following evasions and the war would of lasted much longer meaning more deaths. Dropping the bombs was a good choice in my oppinion,

yeah i saw "white" too on HBO...
was hard to watch what those people went through..unreal..
It was a learning experience for Us here in the USA-we were in a race for that weapon and someone was going to try it.
it is always sad that men have to destroy....war is horrible, but when it's Good v.s Evil..sometimes the good have to do evil things to win.
Japan DID want to conquer america let's not forget.
Not saying that JApan was evil..but the NAZi's were.. If such a weapon must be used it was maybe a good thing that a compasionate country like america was the first to show the whole world that this kind of weapon is not the answer...we have never used it again.
If we were these Evil people alot of the world makes us out to be these days... after we bombed japan..we could have taken any country we wanted or even most of them, but we give Japan back to Japan and restore europe from chaos. I know we Japan disassemble the military and they save alot of money on not having to upkeep a army but...I am blown away at the thought that these people who had the most horrific weapon ever made dropped on them twice have in the last 50 years flurished beyond belief.
All cultures should take a page from thier book..
They never sat and complained about anything..they just brushed themselves off as a whole culture and moved forward to the superpower they are today just 50 years later.UNREAL....

    ok i babbled long enough...
"white" was a good documentary.worth checking out

I'll definitely need to check this one out.. my grandfather was a photographer for National Geographic and in the Marines around that time.

On a side note, if your watching HBO and want to cheer up,
check out the Flight of the Conchords. It's great
