    Is Your Website Comfortable?

If you've never been to a Barnes & Noble bookstore, I highly recommend you do so. It's quite an experience. The stores are designed to be...well, comfortable.

B&N stores are laid out beautifully. Thery're bright and cheery, there's plenty to see. And there's plenty of room to browse. Or if you just want to sit down with a cup of coffee and read a book, you can do that as well.

Or you can do what I do...sit back and observe people. The point is B&N stores are so comfortable you can literally spend hours in one.

That's the goal you should have in mind when you design your website...comfortability. You should design your website to be as comfortable as possible, so that your visitors want to spend hours browsing your site.

My internal stats tell me approximately 20% of my visitors spend at least two hours on my site. Some stay even longer. What does that tell me? It tells me that visitors find my site very comfortable. And that's reflected in my traffic and sales as well.

Of course, in order to achieve that level of comfort for your own site, you'll need to do your homework and pay strict attention to detail. You'll also need to have plenty of fresh, interesting content for your visitors to browse.

In closing, rather than thinking in terms of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), instead start thinking in terms of RPO (Real People Optimization) and design your website for people, not search engines.

If you do that, when people visit your site "word of mouth advertising" will kick in and you'll get your fair share of traffic and/or sales. I promise!

Good tip, but I wouldn't call B&N comfortable. I would recommend people go to local cafes with the new age type of feel to them. Those are so comfortable I would live in one. It's the genuine feel, value they provide. Free wireless. Giving is receiving, and they've certainly received a lot of my dollars. I get a lot of word-of-mouth for my freelance and web development. That's where the best and most willing customers come from.

    Another good post Dale.

And I think it is better for online entrepreneurs to do both RPO and SEO proportionally.

    I have questions though:

How do you know that your visitors spend at least two hours or even longer on your site? What tools do you use?

Does every website on the internet have that kind of tools?

    Thanks.

    Thanks cyber!

To answer your questions...I use comprehensive analytic software OneStat to analyze my stats.

Does every website have that kind of tool? Yes, most websites have some type of basic analytic software through their hosting companies. However, many individuals such as myself prefer to use a more advanced analytics program, which is why I use One Stat.

Also, many individuals use Google Analytics which is a popular, free program. However, last time I checked their stats were not delivered in real time, which is important to me.

Mind posting a screenshot of your statistics showing 20% staying for two hours or more so we can see what that tool looks like? Thanks.
