Exclamation Is The Internet More Popular Than Television?

According to a new study by IDC, consumers spend twice as much time using the internet as watching television. IDC - Press Release

But does that really mean that the internet is twice as popular as television? Apparently so. I had never really thought about it before, but you do you see a lot more people carrying around laptops than portable televisions. And because of the nature of my business, I personally spend considerably more time on the internet than watching television - and so does nearly everyone else I know. So the internet gets my vote.

What about you? Do you spend more time on the internet or watching television?

It is much more popular than TV, and for good reason:

Greater accessibility
More information available
Active rather than passive use
Etc.

Additionally, I've read articles discussing the epidemic of "information addiction" that is arising from Internet use.

I think interaction is the key. People want that interactive environment, and watching t.v. doesn't do it anymore. Interaction can be surfing, reading information, playing games, chatting, etc.

I believe that watching t.v. makes you very lazy, and I know some people believe the internet also makes you lazy, but it has to do with what you are doing on the internet, such as helping your career by reading information that stimulates your mind, instead of playing World of Warcraft while eating cheezy poofs

On that note though, the two do have inactivity in common, feeding America's ever-increasing obesity epidemic. But that's an entirely different animal to be tackled in a different thread.

Yea that's true, but alot of that has to do with a person's self control..ex. either go outside for an hour and play some kickball, or spend a hour watching videos on youtube.

Nothing in the world can make you get up and do something about your weight, but the internet and t.v. certainly are not helping.
