Don't get me wrong, I can learn from any situation. working at Macdonald's taught me how a production line works and how to be efficient and cut time out of a process. I also learned how to hustle.
From school, all I'm learning is how NOT to be.

what you're talking about are the periphery benefits as opposed to the raison d'ętre. I should have been more specific. I just find it hard to justify my tuition costs when I'm basically sitting through one boring power point presentation after another, when I would rather go to the business section at Chapters and read that.

Just to reiterate the opinions of others, have you considered that you might get what you put into it?

Because it's "dumb?" Well, that doesn't sound like a very "well-reasoned" or convincing argument at all. That's just me. Maybe it is a compelling argument to others.

he just said that he discriminated not on skill set but on 'parity', which makes me assume he's more about keeping appearances than anything.

More about keeping appearances, or more about allocating resources?
An assumption is merely a tradoff between knowledge and resources. When one makes an assumption, he merely decides that additional knowledge is less valuable than the resources lost by gaining it.
I assume that Akula is a busy guy. To him, a degree is a very quick and inexpensive indication of one's general level of knowledge. While he could determine whether one without a degree has the same level of knowledge, it would be cost him significantly more resources (time, money, thought, etc.). As a result, if he seeks an individual with a given level of knowledge, it makes sense that the least expensive, and thus preferable, way to find such individual would be to discriminate just as he does.
Makes sense to me.
