ideas needed for event management business.

Hey guys.! I'm Aaryavar from Chennai,India.

me with a friend of mine planned to open up a restaurant business here in Chennai, but as we were lacking with our funds and capitals, we thought of starting up an EVENT MANAGEMENT business first to earn some nice cash in less time.!

SO IS IT A RIGHT DECISION TO START UP THAT WAY?!! i do wanna know.!

And then i also want to know some nice, new, out of d box ideas for events that be conducted here in Chennai. Something which u think must not have happened yet in India or Chennai. So all ideas for new events welcome. And do help me up with my decision.!

Welcome to the forum! Any business you can turn a profit on and that you enjoy is win in my eyes. Of course following your dreams is always possible as well. Do you have any experience in event management? If you want to open a restaurant why not start out with a catering company. Catering is like event management and restaurant management all rolled into one and far less investment costs and barriers then a restaurant. If you want to get ideas for events I suggest just picking any major city and looking through there event calendars. Vegas, LA, New York would be great places to gather event ideas. Its hard to give advice about events not knowing what your area expertise are. How is the economic climate in India right now?

Firstly, thanks a ton for such an awesome and quick reply. As far is CATERING thing is concerned, i did gave it a thought few months back, but then as i'm doing my college also at the moment it wouldn't be possible for me to give major time of my day to it. but surely it is an amazing idea and also there are many of that sort.

Now coming to events. Thanks again for a great idea of checking out event calenders, but Chennai still not as big as LA, NYC etc. here people do have money, but they're a bit conserved. And any sorts of idea for events are welcome sir, as i'm open to all the ideas coming in, but in the beginning we would be startin up wid few parties, gigs, mindbusters, etc.!
Now the parties generally here in Chennai are nothing like up there in western countries. So i want some ideas using which i can make it a lit bit out of the box for the people down here in Chennai. Gigs also have their share of problems like no proper sound, no proper band, not proper venues, etc. So mainly i'm looking up idea for parties and gigs using which it becomes a bit different experience for both party animals and metal heads!

BTW, the economic climate of India at the moment is pretty stable and fine.!

Speaking of clients-what better place to start your business development than with your previous or existing colleagues and clients. If the time is right to do so, then by all means, get the good work out there that you are an event planning expert and that you are in business. Make some phone calls and spread the word. Your existing professional friends and contacts will likely be the catalyst that helps you drive your first few event planning gigs. And from there, it only gets easier.
