    I need your Opinion!

What do you guys think of this Press Release!

Starving Artist Begins Quest to Be Millionaire

Philadelphia, PA - - July 19, 2006 - - 10,000 portraits in one year seems an impossible undertaking but that’s just what artist J.L. plans to do. He plans to draw 10,000 portraits in one year. The fee per portrait is $100. That totals $1,000,000 for one year’s worth of drawings.

Starving artist tired of starving. “I want my daughter to have the best of what this world has to offer along with my love, so I figure why not use my talents as an artist,” said starving artist, Jim Love.

Photos can be submitted as attachments to portraitsubmits@yahoo.com. Include contact info, name and address in the body of the email and also send clear, large .jpegfile images to expedite the drawings. Portraits are available for viewing within 48 hours.

Each portrait will be signed, dated and numbered. He will post every portrait as they are finished. There is one catch, however. The original portraits will not be released until after July 13, 2007. Reason being, a major exhibit of all 10,000 drawings will be scheduled to celebrate this undertaking. All proceeds from the exhibit will go to charity. The exhibit and gallery showing will either be in Philadelphia or New York City.

To kick off the event, a special drawing will be held on July 12, 2007 for everyone who purchased a portrait. Three random winners will be drawn for prizes up to $50,000 or 5% of portrait earnings. Each portrait is given a number upon completion. These numbers are the numbers used for the random drawing.

Prizes are distributed in the following format:

1st Prize: $50,000 or 5% of portrait earnings

2nd Prize: $30,000 or 3% of portrait earnings

3rd Prize: $20,000 or 2% of portrait earnings

I love the idea man. But you do realize, @ 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, you're going to have to do 1.14 portraits each and every hour. Quite the undertaking, but awesome idea.

    Hey Tek,
I can complete about 2 portraits an hour in different mediums which averages about 28.5 portraits a day, 14hrs a day. I know even that is an undertaking, but I'm ready!

Very well. If you can handle it and it's what you love doing (trust me... one straight year of doing something even you love can kill you ) then best of luck to you. Hell man, if you're successful in this i'd love to fly back out to philly for the exhibit.

    Artdrops,

I like your idea man, something original but a huge task. Have you thought about the time it will take to get the 10,000 different photos for you to do the portraits. Will you year start from that point?

Good luck with it, I look forward to reading about your success.

"What do you guys think of this press release?"

It reads a little too much like ad copy. Remember, if you want any press to pick this up (and I assume you will not just send it out online, but also learn who to send it to locally - specific reporters NOT just the paper), anyway if you want any press to pick this up, your press release needs some major adjustments to focus more on the story, and less on how people will pay you!

Like I said - reads too much like ad copy and most likely will get ignored by press unless you adjust it. Without speaking of the possibility of your endeavor, I do think a proper press release would garner you at least local coverage in the papers.

It's not really a waste of time when theirs a possibility to make $1,000,000! Not to mention if the press picks up the story my skill and noteriety will expand therefore making my skill that much more bankable. Don't be so quick to dismiss the power of press. Try something different - do not close your mind to opportunity no matter how different it may be to your beliefs.

Thanks for your words of encouragement!
I will complete portraits as the pics roll in and the year to complete the task has already begun.

The hardest part, I fear, is getting people to sign up/buy one.

I think the benefit is in two parts 1- owning a piece of art. 2 - Possible chance of winning a prize at years end. The press release will be sent nationally so hopefully that will make it much easier to get the 10,000 patrons. Again, it is only $100 per portrait and a chance to apart of something that could be big. Small price to pay as far as art portraits go.

I would also like to contact the guiness book of world records when I am close to finishing. This should increase the value of each portrait.

I love the idea, but you're hand might literally fall off. Let me know how it works out for you.

Maybe you could design 10,000 entrepreneurs and have the prizes go to the charity of their choice. Set up a website and post all the drawings and company/entrepreneur profiles.

Best of luck to you, my friend!
