I Moved to Mexico for a While

Mazatlan Mexico - $150 a month for a house 2 blocks right from the main boardwalk (all beach)... It´s wild how cheap beachfront properties are still down here - even though this is the main tourist section the economy is still messed up.

I´ve been hitting up the malls and many retailers sell bootleg clothes that the US really comes down on you for...found a couple stores selling bootleg Lacoste shirts ($20 retail), LV gucci handbags ($40-$60 retail), etc.. A lot of the stores carrying them are chains too..the store I bought my bootleg Lacoste shirt was at least.

Do you have to drink bottled water, or is the water good where you live?

Ya I´m definitely going to hit up Cancun for spring break - I´m in Mazatlan and I heard the spring break here is pretty crazy too. Like a 5 mile long party on the beach for week, packed with people.

    I am about 2 blocks from: http://www.terra.com.mx/galeria_de_f.../55/108214.jpg

I drank the water off the tap for the first few days but I eventually drank something funny and it got me sick for a night. There´s guys who do the 5 gallon water hustle, up and down the block in the mornings.

Bought about 15 lobsters for a little less than $20 - have been eating lobster tails all day lol..

There´s a bunch of internet cafes here too - it´s $1 an hour. At night they are packed with kids chatting and blasting music.

But theres plenty of real estate opportunities down here - I will be buying a house/duplex/multiunit in about 5 or 6 months...I´m picking up spanish as fast as possible so I can eventually swing a deal.

astj, Mexico isn't that third world. The water from the local water treatment company isn't sufficient clean at times. This is why you buy bottled water. If he's in Mazatlan then he has access to good water since it's full of tourists.

Just don't get kidnapped, dude. South America, and Mexico, and Brazil are beautiful, but don't forget that they can be very, very dangerous.

If you're in a touristy part of Mexico, then that's fine. But if you're going to travel around the country to one of the REALLY poor areas, hire a body guard.

But if you stay in Cancun, you're probably fine. The government actually provides adequate police protection in those areas since they don't want them to get a bad reputation and lose our on the tourista money.

Anyway, enjoy your time on the beach. And don't forget to scuba dive, they have great diving down there.

lol ya nordic, I am in the tourist section...A lot of mexico tourists come here.. So far people have been really cool, no hard looks or hassle or anything... but I can imagine that the ghettos down here are bad like anywhere else. Like, I wouldn´t mess w/ tijuana at night..
