    I Don't Get "Information Technology"

I know a lot about a lot of stuff...but I don't really know what "IT" is. One of my friends majored in IT, and my elder sister did lots of IT courses...they all did that a few years ago, way before I had my first email address, let alone my first computer.

Can someone be kind enough to explain what an IT professional does? I don't want to ask my friend in case she thinks I'm minding her business...

    Thanks a lot guys.

IT can be a lot of things from programming (creating software programs) to networking (managing "routers" and "switches" which make this whole internet thing possible) to being a system admin (manages and manicures a company's computer equip. servers and etc...).

When people say they're in IT that's just as vague as saying you're a lawyer or a doctor because there are hundreds of different specializations within the field. One thing you can be sure of though is that IT usually involves business and computer technology!
