    how much is to much

I've just purcahse a existing fast food franchise business and have started to try to bring the name back up around our town. The preivous owner lost interest and let the business take a dive. I have started to advertise in our local paper and radio station. Is there a limit that a person should stop that when it won't really matter in how much you advertise, or as much as you can the better. Also we are in a small oil town 20000 people.

    Actually, you need a strategy.
Brand building is difficult. And particularly, if the brand has taken a beating earlier, for whatever reasons. I only hope due to previous owner's mistake, the brand name has not suffered. Else, you may need to inform the customers that this is under new management and how you are different.
Spread the word. Sometimes,Word of mouth achieves more results than the advertisements.
Probably, you may conduct a small quiz show and give away a prize 'one Pizza every day for 3 months' for the winner. This you may conduct one every weekend, inside your premises.
Or probably, you may give discount coupon to all 20,000 through some means - say 10% discount ??
I am not sure. I am not a Brand Expert. These are just my ideas. Think over.
    All the best.

PS: if it works, give me a Pizza everyday for an year :-)

Yea I would look at building fans of your business. So start giving incentives for people to come, and then make sure they get the best service ever. and let them become your promoters.

Welcome to the Forum and hope you make a very big success of your new business venture but what concerns me is why the previous owner lost interest was it because of the massive fall off in trade and then decided to cut his losses and run.It is a very easy option to say i have lost interest as it is not saying the business is going down hill and it give the new owner hope.

You could as people have mentioned post in the local paper a 10% off coupon or say kids under a certain go free for a certain time duration or offer free ice cream or what ever and once they find the store and become customers you could then end those offers gradually.

good service is very important in order for your customer to come back. Study also your competitors, find their weaknesses and make them your advantage.
