    How Generous Are You?

Want to know your views on donating money and or time... Do you give to homeless? Or do they make you sick? Do you find that at the end of the year you have donated a decent amount of money, more or less? than you would like or expect? to any cause? People knocking on doors or out on the street?

Anyone have a crazy story of the guy that leaves a $1000 tip or any of that? (Obviously not on an $5000+ tab of course.)

Asking because of the old adage that you get what you give. Anyone believe it? Or are you a hoarder? Did you increase your income after giving generously?

Curious, anyone ever get a $5000 tab?

    Thanks

Both my firm and I give a lot of money to charity. There are certain causes that I support more than others for personal reasons, but for the most part I try to spread around our charitable giving to several different organizations. I do believe that the more you give back, the more you get and I've found it to be true (and not just in philanthropy). As long as I'm CEO, my firm's going to be socially responsible.

One time my friend was served by a waitress wearing an obama sticker, so when it came time to leave the tip he told the waitress he would be giving her tip to the homeless person sitting outside begging, and did, true story, i thought it was clever. sorry if its semi-off topic.

anyways I give nothing at this point, but then again I am still a college student that is in a system that trys to suck everything out of you.

Another thing is I think its stupid to leave a tip for more than whats accepted, 20% or whatever, i had a friend who used to leave 5$ tips for 10$ meals, it just doesnt make sense, unless you are trying to "score" (I guess thats a reason people may leave big tips), I would say you are either conceited or stupid... its like going into best buy and saying, ill buy that TV for 20% more than the sticker price.

It's a very good idea to tip generously in the restaurants that you bring your clients into. Tip the servers and maitre'd well and they'll treat you like you own the place; it will leave a good impression on your clients.

On a side note, tip well anywhere if you want to be treated like royalty.

I actually give to charity less and less. It really angers me the amount of charities that are out their and finding out that sometimes only 20 cents from your dollar actually goes towards helping somebody. I prefer to actually give gifts or food hampers or volunteer where possible.

And Australia is a bit different in terms of tipping as you’re not always expected to tip. I will only tip if the staff do a good/great job.

The other thing I have noticed is when people work in an industry where they are tipped they will tip more then a person who works in a industry were you don’t get tipped.

Yes, it's a good idea to share a little blessings you have. I also share small amount to the needy. Not that big, but am sure it's always appreciated.

I guess I never wanted to be treated like royalty, but maybe one day that will change... at this point id like to be treated my age, not like a 16yr old.

Most people tip generously because it makes them feel good, and the person receiving the tip happy. And I think that's what we need more in this world is happiness.

It could not have been put better. There are of course strategic reasons for tipping well in any location. Especially if you are a regular, or possibly just because you want to look like "money" yourself.

I myself do give what I can to homeless and even people waiting on the side of the freeway. My mother and I joke and say "Hey, it might be jesus". I personally dont believe in Karma in any form, just coincidence and timing.

As far as Donating, I do donate 6% of all of my companies proceeds to Child abuse clinics, overseas relief and to respective City focussed functions such as the Police and Fire Departments balls. Being in Burbank CA it helps to be GREATLY involved in the city that houses so many studios and artists. It also develops a sense of trust with small businesses.

I do have a system for the tip for the waitress or bartenders, if they ask how I am doing, keep a smile on their face, are sociable, if I have to ask to have my drink refilled, if they ask if I will be having desert (whether I am having it or not). And simply due to the fact that I got through most of college bartending. its the Empathy that helps.
