Global Economics

Anyone watching what's going on in India today? Foreign investors are fleeing the country because of the surprise election outcome. Looks like the end of the popular outsource destination.
And this at a time when China's economy is starting to overheat.

Anybody here think they may feel repercussions in their business?

what do you mean about their election. Who got elected and why does this mean trouble for business. Is it a socialist?

Sonia Gandhi's Congress Party took victory in elections. She is expected to become Prime Minister. Her party will need to rely on the communists and leftists in forming a government, and are against privatization. Thus, investor panic.

Sorry. I am not trying to sound like an econ know it all. Far from it, actually. Just my opinion that events may curtail if not completely derail continued U.S. offshoring to India and limit future spending (imports). Not sure that it will mean much trouble for business outside of their country. However, was curious if this event may have a positive or negative impact on business for anyone here. That's what I meant by "repercussions".

I thought Ghandi was already in some form of leadership before?

I surprises me that they would elect a Socialist government. Do you have links to any news articles about it.

India's 300M person middle class was growing rapidly thanks to Capitalism, hopefully that does not go backwards.

Maybe they will go back to attempting to be selfsufficient.

You're right. The Gandhi family has political leadership dating back to sometime in the mid to late 1940's. The current prime minister elect is the latest member of the family to take the title.

This link should give everyone some good background and current info on todays market fallout:
