    Girls........

Hey, i notice that MOST girls dont have any ambition, or any entrepreneurial sense, etc.

Most of the people on here a men, and i wonder, why do we not see many women try to succeed in the business world?

It kinda annoys me, all the girls im friends with are bimbos, no intelligence comes out of them what so ever. What do people think? do girls try to be successful, or do they just care about hanging with the friends, going to the clubs, finding the next 'hot' guy.... and why?

well...i dunno about bimbos...if you wanna see ambitious chics, come to your local law school. 70% of the industry is female dominated. girls in law/accounting/finance are very ambitious...because their ambition is encouraged in these industries. with these chics, "finding the next 'hot' guy" is pretty much towards the bottom end of priorities. needless to say, most ambitious chics are boring (in as much as most ambitious guys are boring).

now, it's true..only about 15% of UK small businesses are majority women owned (compared to 30% in US)..whilst there is a very long list of reasons why men own more businesses than women, it's important to note that the percentage differs across countries

in other words, depending on whether she is in US or UK, a girl may be twice as likely (or unlikely) to start a business...so yes, social attitudes play a role. e.g. as long as there is a negative social expectation in Australia (or japan, for that matter), women will be underrepresented in the statistics

Yeah, i guess you maybe right, but about accounting finance, but they are all imports if you say so. At my uni, they are all asain, or indian. You dont see any local Aussies doing it, they all tend to do marketing, which is easier to get into...

sure...I'll sidestep the issue of model minorities and self selection bias for international students, or how these things might relate to graduate outcomes. personally, since the number of people in china and india with 120+ IQ is over a hundred times larger than Australia's entire population - I wouldn't surprised if students with chinese and indian backgrounds come to enjoy more deserved successes than their anglo saxon counterparts

nonetheless, are Australian girls especially stupid when it comes to entrepreneurship? I don't think so. The GEM reports show that Australia isn't the most entrepreneurial country in general (as compared to thailand), and also, we don't have the best track record for youth entrepreneurship.

Our girls aren't stupid, and neither do they lack ambition. They're simply not in a country that encourages and supports them for achievement (as compared to other countries).

Because girls are better at spending money then making it just the way it works, it's been in my family for yonks my dad earns and my mum spends for food and other things.

    Hi Crackah,

Unfortunately, there are a lot of gender bias issues to what you have observed. At no point I am picking on your age, it's just that maturity isn't quite ripe for most people your age.

I'm 34, a woman, and I own businesses. My ex-husband had no entrepreneurial "gene" in his body. Even though his parents owned a business, it was never his cup of tea.

I on the other hand, was influenced by my grandmother who has never worked for anyone in her life and just hustled. My mom always had a side business along with her teaching job. I must've taken on the same spirit at a very young age because I've surpassed what they have achieved.

Without that exposure and influence I don't think I would ever reached the level I've reached today. I think it boils down to environment and the type of exposure women had in their life.

Hopefully when you get to a certain age that you will meet more women that have the same entrepreneurial spirit as you do. I think because the womens world still lack the empowerment that they need to start wanting more out of their lives.

You seem to speak like a chauvinist.

It's certainly changing, as before women were never encouraged to make their own way. Now there are women breaking through in most fields, apart from the traditionally male-dominated fields like construction and engineering. Note the phrase "breaking through" - women are only starting to come up in the business world, as in being their own bosses. Remember, it was only 30-35 years ago that women were taught to expect little more out of life than to find the right man, get married and have babies. Even with women's lib, laws and social attitudes were a tad slower to change. There are success stories from before this time, but they were exceptions. It's the generation Ys (I think that's us... born after 1978??) who are going to see more women making their way.

What I DO notice though, is that women are nowhere near as funny as men! Why is that? The best comedians are men. The best comic actors are men. The funniest magazines, songs, TV shows and movies are written by men. Compare a men's and women's magazine aimed at the same market and about basically the same stuff. The men's magazine is hilarious, the women's magazine tries a bit of humour but it doesn't come off, in my experience. Yes, I've lived with a girlfriend before, that's how I know

omg wow nice topic, just a waste of space, come on who cares if girls/women own businesses or not, I dosen't matter the gender it depends on the person, and the person charater depends on the envirement they have been raised.

I really depends on the person views on their future, and for female and males the country envirment has alot of effect on their views in their future, alot of females don't care to run a business some just want to work and shop, some just want to be a house wife, it really depends on how they are raised. It's the same with men also. Also it depends on peoples situation, if they can't start a business becuse they don't have money, they soon lose the vision of starting a business and they start to look for how they can work for someone.

think like a programmer, lol , their are alot of if's and then's....

the think is that men that own business or work is old, like long ago it was only men that made money soon, things change letting women to start businesses and run stuff, that's still a new concempt it will take a while to see women being a majority of business owners.

just like a business when your new, it takes time to have people to know about our business and stuff, becuse it's a new concempt, like no one shopped at your store or used your business before, so it takes time.

so it will take a while, becuse alot of women are still influence by the past way and their ideas and dreams are based on that I guess.

I hope I am not offendeding any one.

but it's just my thoughts and since I am a programer, we look at loical way's of situations.

like in games. SO making AI gives you a little understanding in life on how alot of stuff effects our thinking, like gender, religion. and other stuff.

Those are my thoughts and also I think it's kinda a waste of time asking why women are not majority in business.

I think it's pointless to think why, becuse it's not based on gender it's mostly based on a person's envirment, like gorwing up if you parents talk lot's about doctor's and doctor's are great and all, if that person wanted to impress their parents they most likely would try to become a doctor.
But event's and situations may change that.

So all I am saying that it's not that all women don't care or like just to shop and spends the guy's money, it's mostly a big image habbit , like it was alway's like that in the past the man makes the money the women spends it so most women today are like that but just some are not, and this will grow over time after the past influences are not longer lingering.

Just my thought's on this subject.
