Post Fustrated!

its a funny thing always coming up with business ideas and not following through with them, or relizing they wont work.
Being in a small business is something i have grown up with and have a real good eye for. I have ventured into property developing/investing. I have my princple place of residence and two other investment properties, and am building a unit at the moment. This is all while running a profitable fresh seafood business in melbourne.

Im doing OK, but want more. I dont know if its greed, passion or drive, all i know is that im looking for something NEW !!!!

At the moment im at that stage where im afraid to leave my business in someone elses hands as its my primary income, which is funding my properties. Am i crazy to be wanting to start another business to make more money ? People arond me tell me that i have enough and to enjoy life (holidays) but what if THIS (what im doing now) is what i enjoy ?

Anyhows im sure that there are other business minded people like myself in this similar situation, so id like to hear your thoughts and comments.

The problem is if you are looking for perfection you will never find anyone who meets your expectations.

You have to make a decision --

are you someone who is going to offload tasks and get a lot done
or
are you someone is going to hoard tasks to yourself and only grow as far as your own time will permit

I have made the decision that I want to get more done and amplify my time. By doing this I have to let things go and sometimes just turn my head when people do something different than the exact way I wanted it.

If you make the decision and stay comitted just remind yourself of that when you are about ready to chop one of your employees heads off.

My problem is that:

1) I don't have enough time to work on all the major ideas I have
2) I've got so many decent ideas that it's difficult having to put one that could be very profitable aside while I work on another
3) Attempting to get some of these ideas up and running with a business partner is difficult because we have both been on holidays at different times and currently I'm worried that my partner hasn't been doing his share of the work. (we are still in the beginning stages)

But hopefully with some time management and and actual spare time things should fall into place.

It's definitely not greed by the way I see it. It's a way of life. A passion for business. Entrepreneurs and business leaders are always looking to create new businesses and take on exciting opportunities.

Of course, many will be happy with what they have and will not understand your need to do more. They don't have the same drive and ambition in life.

I ask myself these same questions time to time. At what point will I be content? Where do I want to be? Working to create or grow my own business is something I love to do. I just don't think there is a time where you will be "completely" content. There is always the next level or goal to move towards or the next challenge you would like to take on. It just keeps going.

I feel like the leaders of the world feel the same way. They are working to get to the next level no matter how successful they are. I currently work a full time corporate job and use all my remaining time to work for my business. I never have enough time to do everything, yet I'm always looking for more. My next step is to get my hands in real estate like you have. I'm also looking into opening a restaurant. I can't get enough. There's so much opportunity!

Im glad that there are others that have the same thoughts as i do. There have been some GREAT points made. Steve yes i am a perfctionist and i try an run my business in the same way as there is not much margin for error in my industry (hense there is no FRESH SEAFOOD franchise) (in Austalia) something in the near future im wanting to tackle. In regards to your offloading tasks comment well im not the best at doing that as i do everything myself, and when i do offload tasks i get fustrated with the way its done because its not the way i would have done it.

CrazyHungry im glad you dont think im greedy, there are lot of others that think im either greedy or crazy, but that a whole other story.

thanks for your constructive comments people, keep them coming

When I was real young 14 -- I got a summer job working for a web developer.

He ran a very successful local web design business makes maybe $150-200k a year.

He has tried to expand, hire employees, get an office outside his home, etc. He just can't give up control -- so in the end of the day his time is maxed out and he has decided it's probably best for him to not have employees as he spends time redoing the stuff they do (essentially paying for everything twice).

As long as he doesn't give up control he will be unable to make more than his $200k a year.

The other thing that we need to be careful of is FOCUS! Look at the people you know that are successful and look up to as leaders and mentors. Did they do it with a new business every year, or did they take a business and spend 5+ years perfecting it???

Concentrate on one concept -- the grass will look greener else where until you spend some time establishing your business. 10 years down the road you will be really happy you have concentrated on focused rather than trying every idea that comes your way.

I really challenge you guys to name public examples of success or even personal examples that have achieved success while trying many different ventures at once or switching from one plan to another often. We all know people have built one successful business through focus and sold it, and than you see them selling their next business for twice as much, but it still takes FOCUS and one at a time.

Than when you have a WARCHEST full of regularly flowing income try business ventures to your hearts content.
