    "for rent" vs. "to let"?

    Hi guys,

I was in London for the first time a few weeks ago during my holiday. I noticed a lot of signs hanging in windows of apartments and office spaces with either the text "for rent" or "to let"..

And I started to wonder about it - what is the difference between signs saying e.g."flat for rent" and "flat to let"..?

I am from Denmark, which might be why I do not find the answer to be obvious, which I of course apologise.
Teach me people, what is the difference?
And which term is the most correct one to use..? I am having trouble figuring it out myself.

Yes Mega B has said, they mean the same thing. Some people use different words to mean the same thing. You might also hear the term "for lease".

EDIT: "For rent" is the most "correct" to use, because it it is the most understandable.

If you are the owner of a property is may be available TO LET. If you are a potential tenant you are looking for a place FOR RENT. Signs TO LET and FOR RENT may convey the same meaning but are used very differently depending on whose perspective one is taking. The owner lets his property, the tenant rents it.The words are similar to "borrow" and "lend." If I am the owner I may be willing to lend the item to you, if you are the user you may want to borrow it from me.
