    Smile finding a balance

    Hi fellow YE's,

I fell in love with the idea of making money online about 2yrs ago. I had a concept, a good business plan (so i thought) and so much passion and drive....in retrospect I was also extremely naive. Two years and a lot of money later, my site is still not finish, nor has it made any money while it has been sitting there. After so much frustration with my web-designer (who was extremely unprofessional) and so much time spent on planning (at the expense of my university degree)...i lost all hope. Now I am finally starting to get back into it again and feel the passion for my idea like I had before.

I now realize that there were probably a few ways I could have made money while my site was being developed... but i suppose that is how you learn. One thing I have definitely learnt is that you can not have everything ''perfect". If I had spent less time trying to make everything just the way I wanted it, I could have invested more time into other aspects of the site. So currently I am looking for a new web-designer to fix up a few major issues (a reputable off-shore i'm thinking)... and doing as much research as I can into affiliate marketing. The only frustrating thing is when you have people asking you,'so is your site finished yet...?' Further to this people not understanding that for some of us this is 'our job' and not some silly little project (not that I have made $$$ yet so I guess that does not really apply to me :P).

Just wondering how many of you actually only work from home and not have another job? Have you found it easy to keep a balance between spending time online/on your business and making time for other activities ....do you miss being in a work environment with others?

    cheers

My advise is to launch a beta site first.....and developed it as you go!!

I run a few business full time!! Started from home though!! Its always tough in the beginning Bro. Just keep it up and focus..

Dont forget to build your network / list as you go. At the end of the day the numbers does count!!

Wow, this sounds so similar to the predicament I'm in right now with developing my website. It was started in early March and the planning and development stage is just never-ending. I have lost a lot of money while it has been sitting there stagnant, with no content and no definite date when it will be finished. It is extremely frustrating to say the least, but I know all of the preparation is going to pay off in the end.

I started my site in June of '06, still making no money, but I am doing all of this myself and doing the full time pilot thing (which does give me a lot of time to work on the site, but I have also had other projects I have worked on). I'm not in any hurry because I pay really good rates to be hosted, and I am in the tweaking and further development stage. I have a very clear vision of what I want to do, but I am learning the specifics of how to accomplish it while I learn, so my plan is constantly being adjusted.

I figure it's just the nature of the beast.

Me too, I started in 2002. Did lost some money, but I later I profited from teaching internet lessons and computers repair which landed me in the field that I'm passionate about - consulting. Recently, I started to write blog posts which I'm comfortable with. All in all, I still teach internet, people still send me their broken down PCs, got an attractive contract on my consulting and getting readers on my blog posts. I guess online business just got to wait for me.
    sincerely,
    jaffar
