    fighting "charlatans"?

I just got some news from a local rss feed. A webdesign company is offering a discount for their services that include as they say:

    1. free domain registration under .hu tld
    2. 5 MB webspace for website
    3. unique design

it was just a simple tender / competition (?) until I reread it all.

    1. free domain registration service is to register www.somethingstrange.atw.hu
this means that they register you under a free webspace provider ATW Internet. One line below they're offering www.something.hu registration for extra fee.
    2. ATW Internet provides 500 MB of webspace, so what are they doing with the rest if they give away only 5 MB?
    3. Their references are built on sh*t design, reusing the same free MS Paint templates.

How can one fight against such charlatans? They ruin the software business here and as Hungary is a small country, and there are many charlatans quality website builders are not able to get real jobs. They don't even have a domain registered for themselves, and use gmail as official mail.

And the best thing is that they are offering this discount service for 65 USD. So why should customers pay 1000-1500 USD if not more for quality services and 21st century websites, if they can get a stone aged one for almost free?

    Sorry I just got mad...

Even in the USA we have tons of unemployed website designers who are offering whole websites for say $200. Like you said, a GOOD designer charges over $1000. But the field is so flooded that they're competing with each other for the cheapest price. Anything having to do with IT here has tons of unemployed people willing to do services for nearly free, or for free in some cases with computer repair. I do computer repair, and I can only charge $40-50 because people are listing that amount and then adding on stuff, but all people hear is the $40. I don't do add ons, just a flat fee. Unemployed IT people are competing to underbid each other.

Its a big problem and i hear what you are saying but i have to say i have a guy out in the Far East that does everything for me for about a quarter that someone else in either the US or UK would charge and they have the highest IT skills going and as i have a business to run i would be foolish to not take advantage of these offers and he has been doing all the server management for me also for well over a year and we are in contact every day by IM or email. It is a very frustrating situation to be in from your side of things and i can understand why you are mad i could have said nothing but i wont hide the fact that is what i do !!!

yes I know that. And I wouldn't got so mad, if that offer came from a professional trying to get new customers. But taking a look at their websites and their references, they don't even know the basics. They just build something and say that's the best quality that can be done. So what makes me mad, is that anyone can claim that they ARE professional website developers, just because they can write some html.

bah... I know that the situation is the same everywhere... just had to tell it someone...

yes I understand if they're doing it right, and do it for cheap that's one thing... What I wrote about is complete incompetence and misleading people... that's not the same.
