I use HP and like IBM Thinkpad. Try new brands like Sony, Samsung, Toshiba. Dell is also stable.

    Apple - Mackbook Pro..Never had a problem.

I have always worked with PC's though and from a IT Helpdesk point of view HP and Dell Win hands down.
If your have some money a Dell Alienware PC/Laptop or any Apple is your best bet....In my opinion

Dell is probably the worst and my least favorite.

My first desktop was a refurbished business class Acer and it was pretty solid for the price. I think it was about $300 and it had a decently powerful AMD dual-core processor. Then my mom got me an Acer laptop for Christmas about two years ago and I hated the thing. For the price she paid, the thing was a P.O.S.

Apple has high quality computers, but the way they lock down their software is a joke. Apple's are a fashion statement in the computer world. No one buys them for their performance, they buy them for their looks. I'd love to run Mac OS X on my computer, but there's no way in hell I'd ever pay $2,000 for a computer with outdated hardware (yes, outdated... they still have Core2Duo's in their MacBooks).

Anyway, my vote would have to go with Asus. They've been rated the highest quality computer, next to apple, and you can usually find a nice one for a decent price. I'd love to get my hands on a G73JH.

    Apple <3

I love my macbook pro, and despite its "outdated hardware" it ran way faster then my previous laptop by hp or desktop that had much better specs. Software can really help the speed if its built intelligently.

Now, that being said, im not a huge fan of Apple's strict handling of its software, but heck, I dont regret my purchase.

That's why I use Linux. It's free and it's 1000x's faster than Windows.

Someone's probably going to say.. yeahhh but OS X is 1000x's faster than Windows too. But guess what.. you paid $2,000 for that Mac and I can buy a laptop with the latest hardware for half that price.

Except Linux has even less support from popular programs and games compared to OSX.

I'm a gamer, and was lucky to get Steam on Mac.

Dell is the only option for me. I love to use their products. I personally fell that Dell is the best brand. I suggest everyone to go for it.

This is clearly a misunderstanding on your part. As of like February or something earlier this year, they're running Core i3, i5, and i7 for starters (I'm running an i7 right now. Second, there is a market for everything and it highly depends on the user and what they're using it for. As a web developer, there are key advantages for having an Apple that having a Windows machine (or even Linux) simply won't help me. As a matter of fact, statistically speaking, most web developers in the Valley are using Macs and I can tell you this doesn't have shit to do with the way they look. Ignorant people and average consumers would argue in favor of looks and that is probably a determining factor for them, but it certainly isn't for me.

Price is the WORSE argument ever. It should be base on what you need it for, not merely hardware components and price. I dare argue my Mac can run anything I need it to run perfectly fine and having a more powerful machine won't really do much other than boost my ego. Yes part for part cost is not comparable since Apple generally charges more, but as I've said earlier, there are certain things it's just better at that Windows can't replicate, and neither can Linux. After having used Windows for more than 2 decades, I can honestly say I firmly believe Apple is a better product for the first time.

Don't get me wrong. For YOUR needs, you may not need an Apple and it may not serve you any better, but just because it costs more in terms of hardware does not mean it's worse. That's a bad analysis.

My current comp is HP. Don't waste your money on Macs because they're not productive at all, just shiny.

You are the one mistaken. I said on their Macbooks's NOT Macbook Pro's.

Take a peak for yourself: http://rawrgv.com/images/macbookspe.png

P.S. I may have exaggerated a bit on the $2,000 price point.. but the Macbooks still cost $1,000. You can get identical hardware on an older HP model for about $500.
