    Fab Prefab Homes

    Good morning all!!,

So after a lot of consideration, I have decided what I want to focus on and start a buisness. As long as I can remember I have always been sketching out floor plans of houses, however I don't want to just build any houses. My idea is to design and build small affordable prefab homes. I have been looking at houses on the market for years now and it is very hard to get into the market if you want a house in B.C. I have also been looking at the prefab homes on the internet and one of the problems with many of them are most of them are not very affordable. So my idea is to start with a small studio home/cabin, then go to a 1 bedroom and then a 2 bedroom. Basically the homes would be for a getaway home, first time buyer or with the 2 bedroom model a small family. If anyone has a similar interest I would like to chat, from architects, people in real estate, contractors or if you have a passion about prefab homes.

Thanks, looking forward to some input!!
    Jeff

I think there is definitely interest in minimalist housing, especially for those in their twenties/early thirties now. There is a wealth of information online about smaller houses, especially things like container homes and the like.

I think it's a cool idea and I guess i have a suggestion for starting your business/prototyping. I'm not sure of your resources or abilities, but: Is it possible for you to find some land on a lake or river and develop it? maybe buy a couple acres, split it into lots and then build your first few house designs on site. You'd then get to work on the prototypes and have some desirable vacation homes to sell.

The most important thing about minimalist living is the attention to detail and function. Things like pocket doors, electrical, cabinets, etc... should have efficiency in mind.

I actually have an idea for a niche prefab, if you're interested P.M. me and we'll talk about it.
