I saw this video a few weeks ago. Wonderful. Very funny, yet very true. I think the best outlook we can have on this recession we are in is to look at the positives whenever we can.

If you have a job, are 5-10 years away from retiring, and didn't have a lot of money in the stock market before the crash, then you are not suffering at all.

Other than losing options for yourself in the job market (if you don't like your current job), chances are you are better off today than you were a year or two ago.

For those with a steady income (about 93% of us): EVERYTHING in the world is on sale. Yippie! Gas, cars, clothes, stocks, houses, and electronics are all super cheap. If you are smart with your money, this is a great chance to invest and get ahead. Practically the only thing you can buy less of today than you could in the good times is gold.

Personally, I don't like my job, so it sucks I can't find anything else. However, my job does give me enough income and time to invest in my own ideas.

I try to stay optimistic...but man,the news just keeps getting worse.

Affiliate links gone. Thanks for the heads up.

@financeblogger123 I agree. There are a lot of things that we take for granted. Maybe that's why the teenagers in America these days think that they should have everything handed down to them on a silver platter.

    Thanks ChickenJoe.

I agree to that. What annoys me is many kids my age ~18-22 get things from their parents etc.

Yeah, they may work a few days a week and study, but their parents pay for their phone, new gadgets, car etc.

I have been running my business now for 1 year. Its growing steadily and I have decided by the end of the year I will buy myself a car if it achieve my goals.

1 week ago i was at a bar with some friends, and a girl who is friends of theirs rocked up in the brand new version of the car I want which costs 60k. She didnt pay for it, she isnt overly clever and its all paid by her parents. It really pisses me off that I work hard, every day and this girl gets it all, not doing alot.

    /Rant.

Try to get a hold of the book Richistan, which was published three years ago when everybody was still worshipping rich people. There's a chapter in there about "Aristokids" who have zero ambition or knowledge because their parents did everything for them. They always got Bentleys, the latest electronics, etc and maybe did a few errands for them. Their parents are really getting hammered right now, all the hedge funds have blown up, so they won't be getting the really cool stuff any more. Even worse, they have zero work ethic. They will likely be living in those Bentleys for quite some time. I personally think that rich people shouldn't have kids unless they're willing to TRY and give them a work ethic. The New Rich didn't bother. The kids will NOT be alright.

@crackah That will be really cool when you meet your goal. I would love to see a pic of your car when you get it. Make sure to post it on the forum.

I was going to mention this. Knowing this always makes me feel better.

That and "Mommy and Daddy won't be around forever", sad as it may be, helps as well.

I think people who work hard and make a bunch of money earn the right to raise their kids and spoil them however they want. That said, there just wouldn't be any justice in the world if those spoiled brats didn't just squander it all away when their parents are gone. Things tend to even out over time.
