    Dot.com Boom

Do people realise its been and gone, I see a lot of wannabe myspaces and low quality webdesigners on here. Money on the net can only be made from retail at this present moment in time.

People think theres going to be a second boom, but it will be more aff a pop and i believe you may have already missed the second 'boom' (myspace, facebook, youtube, second life).

Point made? What do you think???

I completely disagree. No matter the industry, there is always money to be made, if you do it right. You just have to adjust to the times.

I do agree that a lot of people think its easier than what it really is. But there are people like that with every type of business, not just dot coms.

The problem seems to be more with dot coms though, of coarse money can be made but i see topic titles such as 'the next myspace' or 'the next youtube' it is really difficult to get a foothold anymore you better off going and setting up a shoping website than a search engine with bad code that has nothing unique about it.

but a lot of that stuff just shows the lack of business maturity in that individual; which there is nothing wrong with. We have all started somewhere, and a lot of people on this forum are just starting out. Over time they will realize these types of things; just like we all learn more over time.

Some businesses are easier to start with less capital, and some you need an enormous amount of funds to even make a small dent in the market. These are things that be found while doing a business feasibility study or while doing a business plan. Often times people forget about these aspects of business though.

This is true, my point is though why do people think that it is so easy to make money and why are people expecting a 'second boom'?

Have you ever seen the movie Boiler Room? The opening scene describes why people think this way perfectly.

As far as a second boom, I don't know. I haven't heard anything about that.

its about how we see stories of people making a quick buck all around us. Some stories truly are a quick buck, but most of the stories leave out the years of hard work that it took that person to get to that point.

You should check out that movie. Its my personal favorite.

Well Michael..what you are saying is kind of true to some extent but that's not the end of dotcom. Dotcom is just not myspace or youtube. These are just some portals that survived the big wave of numerous social networking sites. Why they survived? Because they probably had something different to offer than other networking sites.

I heard Youtube had 62 people in CA who posted the first 60,000 videos in the first two years. It didn't come up in a day. Things take time to come up. Just make sure that you are offering something new to the people that let them distinguish themselves as a community.

For me Dotcom is/was not a wave. It is a new way of life. It is a new means of doing things that probably some of us just dreamt about thinking if this is ever possible - talking to the person on the opposite side of the world for free, having virtually unlimited amount of inbox, share your videos with the world just to name few basic things .

It might be a "transformation" as such, as people are realizing that online is real, and the it is possible, as the market is transforming.

I dont know if there will be a crash, as more people are joining, and more networks are starting. People will use them.

It's a cycle; think about us going into the 90s with e-mail, ISPs, etc. After a few years things slowed down on the interactivity of websites until wiki came out and then we had another slow down. From there we saw the birth of netwoking sites. What I'm getting at is that the internet is a new way of communication and transference of information and I believe we've only just touched the tip of the iceberg on what can and will be done on the web.

with that I give you my new netoworking site. lacebook; a site where lace traders can meet, exhcnage lace material, and poke each other.

Actually this is a good point I agree.

Lol not sure about lacebook though (i'm guessing this is not serious).

No way - we are totally early in the internet game and there is still billions and billions of dollars made.

What you have mentioned are just successful projects that had a unique idea. You don't need a unique idea to be successful.
