Question Do you get support from your parents?

I have had a lot of entrepreneurs telling me they have a hard time at home because their parents do not support or encourage them in being an entrepreneur.

Have you guys had problems with this? How did you handle it?

I have never really had a problem with my parents, but a lot of other people around me, so called "friends" and such have doubted and told me my ideas would not work.
I have never listened to those negative people, it does not tocúch me at all really. As an entrepreneur you got to believe in your ideas, and keep strugglin and NEVER give up.

God this is so true. Even if u happen to mention anything about money they think you are obsessed with it. Saying that though they do try to support me but I just think they are a bit old fashioned as in u go to school get a degree and work hard for someone else, for the rest of ur life.

Yes, not many in that generation was learned other than go to school get a degree and work hard for someone else, for the rest of ur life.
Also nowadays not many people are learned to be an entrepreneur, but with Internet it makes it whole lot easier to get started.

Very true, i think the internet can be a great way of starting off in business. Because its quite like an offline business except theres usually less startup expenses which reduces the risk. Its like a place where u can cum to practice business without the consequences.

But with reduced risk brings reduced returns.

My parents definitely supported my entrepreneurial ideas at first, they even gave me ££££ which I lost thanks to some scammer. As a result, I feel bad as I feel that I have mislayed my trust.

This is one of the reasons why I really want to make it big as an entrepreneur, and is why I think that you should be able to start a business without having to invest in anything. As such I started blogging, and although it doesn't have the same money-pulling power as with selling goods, it is just as fun!!!

my dad is also an entrepreneur and has been for years so i obviously get tons of support from him...mom is like yea whatever you want to do...but has exclaimed "what are you gonna do??" when i say i dont want to work for somebody...that added with my step dad saying i would be lucky if i could find a solid job working under 60 hours a week when i said i didnt want to work 40 for the rest of my life.

when you are in college, especially the last couple years and you talk to people about what you want to do when you get to the "real world" i think people who dont say, "oh i want to work for so and so in this department because they start me off with this much pay and great benefits", get looked at with a sad look like they feel sorry that you wont have security in a job.

for some reason it seems like you cant get support from somebody who is not an entrepreneur because they just dont understand the mindset of not working for somebody else. the closest i get is "thats great that you want to start your own business, but..." then comes the numerous reasons its so risky.

Well my parents just think I dont do anything, its summer and i spend most my time in my room, they dont believe me when im telling them im researching online business and stuff, they just think im playing videa games like my older brother (entering 3rd yr of college). However my dad was impressed when i showed him my newest site (in sig). By the way i graduated highschool so it my senior summer (takeing one college coarse to get it out of the way) and i have enough scholorships that I am only paying a couple hundred each semester for college so im not too worried about money.

My friends on the other side constantly rag on me and its really getting on my nerves that none of them believe in me. They call me "lazy" followed by other inappropiate words and they do the same thing with my ideas and websites, such as many wont even register on my forum because they think i just need to go get a job. Sadly my girlfriend is one of the least supportive

When was it decided that your a "lazy" "looser" if you dont have a job? I dont really care about money as much to go work for someone and hate every minute of it, does that really make me lazy?

Haha Dwaltin, I think the other people are just jealous that you get to do what you like and not have to be worried about consistently earning money.

For me its not the money part of it now, but Im hoping to build up an empire so that I don't have to work a 9-5 job when Im older, and so that I can enjoy my life more without having financial stress for me and my family.

I also want to give something back to my family...but that's one of the things lower down on my list behind the Ferrari and Million Dollar Mansion!!!

Yeah that is my goal too, and I cant wait till I have a decent income from not working at all. I guess you could consider what I do during the day, such as work on sites, ideas, and reading about ways and strategies to create successful projects work but i enjoy doing it so it definately doesnt seem like work and its definately no work like my friends are doing. And through my college years I will continue to build my "empire", while my friends continue to try and find that summer job or even during school for that matter.

Yep, I don't see ANY support from my parents apart from the occasional very small financial support.

My mum continues to tell me I need to get a job.

Though I'm sure they'll all be massively excited when I "strike-it-rich"

    It's sad. Ignore it.

    cheers
