do forums make money

does nayone here run own a forum of anykind that makes good money? if so is it it subscription fees or advertising?

I think most Forums earn revenue from advertising like YE does.I think if i had to pay to go on a Forum i would find another one very much the same but free.

how much does ye charge to advertise? whats the or is there a magic number of members to a forum before you can charge for advertising or beofre companies might wanna advertise on your site, or is it the amount of daily visitors the site gets?

There are many ways that it is done and i guess it is all down to the topic of the Forum if it is a good topic say like football you can do it many ways like adsense,adbrite which is like what YE does and you can earn by people clicking on the ads or getting payed just by people visiting the forum usually on a per 1000 basis.When the forum gets bigger you can then offer banner space for people to advertise there own site how much you charge is usually by how popular the site is.

Usually you build the forum and grow it 1st then after you start getting big daily hits you then start thinking about getting revenue from it not the other way around.

I've read that forums don't make money if you use Google Adsense, because the repeat visitors would ignore the ads.

I'd assume this would also be the case with other forms of advertising too.

Impressions also pay, and new people are always here. I recommend using this software, that jelsoft sells, (very popular) or use PHPBB free.

And Mega B if you don't mind me asking how much revenue you guys pull in?

Well of course forums make money, if they do not, nobody will ever create any forums.

They make money through google adsense, ppc, banner ads, premium members and many creative ways that the forum owners can think of.

I believe most forums earn their revenue through ads rather than membership subscription. Most would want to keep the forum free for usage to attract participation (traffic). As for ads, google adsense doesn't give much, be it impression or click-through. You would have to rely on other ads resources.
