Democrat or Republican?
I don't swing either way - but if I had to choose which side I lean more towards, I'd say Republican ;o)
This should spark some flames around here!

I am telling myself not to post!
But, I think I would also lean to R, but after the last 4 years I would have to say D.

Looking at their policies from an observer's point of view, I'd probably choose Republican. Their conservatism doesn't do well for me, but they are marginally better.
I'll probably vote Liberal (Australian version of Republicans).

Well I am a Libertarian. Since the views of the libertarian party believe in free market and what this country was founded on. Personal responsibility and having freedom to the fruits of your labor. Basically believe you are responsible for your own destiny, it is not the job of the government.
Republicans and democrats don't variate much in their priciples they aren't much different to me. They speak a big game to those who vote for them but when it comes to the bills and budgets they pass they aren't much different.

Hmmm...interesting
Have you ever imagined what it'd be like if our government was totally liberal and we didn't respond to violence, threats, and potential infringment upon our freedom? History has shown that those who disagree with the US and our ways have no mercy, no fear, and will exercise any ability they have to harm us when they feel they should. Waiting around for their consciences to kick isn't going to work

There is a time that the government may need to step in and certian things they do best. In the depression Hoovers approach obviously was not working.

I often think it’s comical
How nature always does contrive
That every boy and every gal
That’s born into the world alive
Is either a little Liberal
Or else a little Conservative.

Being the true Canadian that I am, I have not idea what either the Democrat or Republican stand for.

This might be overly simplistic and erroneous, but this is how I see it:
Republicans like free trade, lowering taxes, and are generally good for businesses. However, they are strict when it comes to personal issues; for example, they don't like gays and abortion.
Democrats are the exact opposite. They like to raise taxes to help poor people, which may actually end up hurting them since raising taxes hurts businesses, which makes it harder for the poor person to find a job. They also feel that people should be allowed personal freedom.
Libertarians take the financial stance from the Republicans and the personal issues stance from the Democrats. Therefore, they are good for businesses and allow personal freedom.
Actually, from what I hear in the news, republicans and democrats don't behave in the ways I just described about half the time. But I like my generalizations because they make it interesting for me.

Like Karen, I didn't know the difference either. Thanks for enlightening me.
However, as a rabid viewer of CNN, seeing all the election coverage and the platforms, the two parties really don't seem that different. At least, the candidates don't. It almost seems like the American bi-partisan tradition is moving towards a more center-ism.
Just a Northern perspective.
