Ive applied for a course at a university, that i could be soon starting in september and it will enable me to get on to a business course leading towards a degree but im wondering if it is really needed if the learning process of an entrepreneur is an ever on going process of successes and failures. Theres alot of people out their thats said its not neccessary to have a degree in business to be a businessman. help please!

The degree is called business enterprise combined honours and its at uni of central lancashire (UK) I know it is probably not needed to set up a business or company but would it give me more experience and prepare me to take on ventures? The degree is probably just a piece of paper but the learning of it is what im after

This topic has been beaten to death. Go to school and get your degree. A solid education is the most valuable investment you'll ever make. Of course, if you don't have the street smarts to match, you may still fall on your face. I have seen brilliant people go get a bunch of degrees, be in the top of their class and still when they get out of college they can't survive in the real world.

It's like this: Even if you have the academic smarts to formulate a strategy to get across the street, if you don't have the street smarts to execute it you're still roadkill.

    YES

That is unless you already have significant knowledge in topics such as economics, finance, operations management, accounting, human resources, and marketing; all of which would help you start, run and grow a business in the future.

If you make 1 billion bucks before you graduate high school, it is not necessary to go to college. If not, go to college and get your degree.

I believe it’s dependent on what you want to do with your life. College can certainly sharpen your mind as well as enrich your knowledge in a variety of disciplines, but it isn’t the only way to learn. As you are posting this question on an entrepreneurial web site, I am going to take the liberty to assume that your ambition lies in starting your own business. To that end, I would assert that it’s a personal decision with no “right” or “wrong” answer.

I believe there is an overarching theme in entrepreneurship; I have found, in my experience, there exists two schools of thought: those who place emphasis on “results” and those who place emphasis on “credentials.”

I tend to fall into the “results” category. In my opinion, the amount of “formal/advanced” education a person has received is less important than their ability to execute. In other words, credentials (i.e. college degree, MBA, professional designation, etc) help to provide credibility (especially when you are just getting started), but the ability to provide an investor with an outstanding ROI and/or start and run a thriving enterprise is what sets apart those who are truly successful.

That said, knowledge is the cornerstone of any successful venture or career. More often than not, college is the best place to develop that fundamental knowledge base.

I don’t know anyone who has ever regretted obtaining an Undergraduate Degree, but I have many wealthy friends who regret never finishing.

    Good luck!

I think it all depends on your mentality going into college, i do not see my income being dependent on a degree whatsoever, but, I do believe college can help me build a foundation of knowledge that will make me a well rounded manager of my money and businesses, just by learning little things along the way.
