    Current Affairs Programs... great marketing

I haven't been watching these type programs for a while, but a few days ago I was watching A Current Affair here in Australia and this fireman had made a simple online program which worked out a salary sacrifice thing to save people tax.

In 24 hours he got 500k hits to the site, and I'm sure a lot of them actually bought his program. I didn't get a good look at what price he was charging, but I'm sure he's doing pretty good. The site's at www.taxcuts.com.au

So it's a great advertising/marketing opportunity if your product or service appeals to the mass audience that watch those programs.

Anyone got any similar ideas for something that appeals to the masses and would be likely to air on such programs?

    cheers

Yeah its crazy. Makes me want to think of something similar and try the same route.

The site is back up now.. looks like he's selling it for $49.50

Here's a good way to think of it. The guy that made the site mentioned above is a fire-fighter.

So if out of those 500k hits, say he managed to get just 1% of them buying his product for $50 each, that's $250,000 ... which would probably be probably 10X his current salary. And I'm sure he could have quite easily sold to 50+% of those hits (since they would have been direct, potential customers) .... which would come out to $12.5mil!

Now that is just friggen crazy lol

    Again, anyone got any ideas?

    cheers

ACA and TT can be either bad or good. Most of the time they just put bums on their who haven’t worked a hard day in their life and want to complain about something (typical scum). Or they have good stories like this. But at the end of the day it is trash TV. Its the equivalent to the telegraph in the newspaper world.

Yep I agree, the majority of people that watch it are (I think) parents with children, most likely in debt, caught in the rat race and fail to see the manipulative techniques these programs use to sway the truth or emphasise a particular point.... it's all for ratings.

But if you can come up with a good product/service which would appeal to the masses who watch these shows, it's a great way to get mass marketing, and potentially become a multimillion-dollar company overnight.

Also I think, especially in being young entrepreneurs as we are, we can use that "youngness" factor which I'm sure the programs would kill to get a hold of... since they would then most likely use "Young Aussie MultiMillionaire" for their previews etc. Great way to market yourself and your business/es. Just have to hope they don't twist the story against you

Dont ask why But i actully saw this story. It was quite a good idea. But when im earning over 125k I think I will need something bigger like a few lawers for me to tax minimise. Im going to write something on the tax bracker being 49c in every $ over 125k in my blog when I lanch it. Should be a good read. It is a good show for a good plug though.
