I've posted here before, and I've received some very good information and help. So, first, thank you all.
Today, I'd like to share the three different "careers" I've envisioned myself loving.
First, I thought I'd like to be a cowboy. Kind of Han Solo style, you know, walking around, fighting, making deals, coming up with plans, bluffing people, being bluffed, and generally being tough and strong and awesome.
Second, at some times of my life I thought I'd like to be a race-car driver. I like speed, and high-pressure, high-stress, high-stakes, and high-speed decision making. I also LOVE competition, probably more than any other character attribute, I like to be in a game. I'd rather lose than not play, but I'll do (almost) anything to win. I don't mind losing--just so long as I can pick myself up quickly, get into a new game, and start playing again. I see this especially as I play dodgeball--I don't mind one bit getting slammed in the face, but I hate waiting at the sidelines till I can get back in the game.
Thirdly, I wanted to be a pirate. I learned this through reading about John Paul Jones, as well as playing Tradewinds (PC game). I love the adventure, the risk, the reward, the swashbuckling of it all. I liked buying and selling goods at different ports, and fighting off pirates.
If it were 1750, I'd be a merchant.
If it were 1850, I'd be a cowboy.
And if I thought being a racecar driver would fit into my life plan, I would do that. I just don't like all that racecar driving entails.
So, my fellow entrepreneurs--I ask: What do you think are the similarities between these three?
In days like these, it's hard to see any career as adventurous as these three.
And if there's one thing I know, it's that I want my life to be an adventure.
