Burger King to serve beer in restrauants.

Introducing the Whopper Bar: Burger King to sell beer at fast food joints

Not that I eat really eat fast food a whole lot, but now if I am out about in the city and want a quick snack, I can't think of a better way to have a fast food burger than with a beer.

Interesting.. Burger King makes me sick to my stomach but I think they maybe onto a decent idea... Beer has a super high mark-up when sold in a retail setting.

just my .02 -- I think it's a terrible idea. I don't really have a reason why, but it just doesn't sound right or make any sense to me.

It doesn't sound right because we've all grown up in a world where
'fast food' had never been associated with beer. If you think about it from purely a business point of view adding a high margin item like beer to your menu would increase profitability.

I don't think many parents will be taking their children to BK from now on..If I had kids I wouldn't want them to be in an environment where people are drinking alcohol.

They won’t be able to serve it from the drive-through window as I believe all states have laws prohibiting open containers. Add to that the fact that many families patronize fast food restaurants and that makes it a really bad idea. It may be a profitable idea but that doesn’t make it a good idea.

I'd have to agree. It doesn't seem like a fast food chain would be the ideal venue for alcoholic beverages. Is this in reaction to competition, or some sort of way to get ahead?

McDonalds introduced free wifi at most of their locations, and their McCafe idea seemed to be successful. Seems Burger King might lose a lot of customers with the integration of beer.

Roger, you said the beer has a high margin of profit. How so? I don't know these details.

@ Roger: The logo will be done soon, I have midterms this week, and barely have any time to even check YE. This weekend, I should have nothing to do but finish up those two.

First you told me the logo would be done three weeks ago...

Beer when served from tap has a COGS of about $0.50 to $0.70 per 12oz. It is usually sold for $2.50 to $5.00 (or even as high as $8.00 at some stadiums). There is no other drink that Burger King will sell with that high of a margin. I would wager to say that a beer will cost about $3.49 so that is a 700% markup. Based on my knowledge of restaurants I don't know if anything they sell has that high of a margin.

So parents do not take their kids to fairs, sporting events, the circus, restaurants, or any other organized event? I think your being a little ignorant of the world we live in.

The only place in the world this is a new idea is in the US. In france they server wine and beer in disney world parks. In mcdonalds in Germany/France/most european countries they serve beer. About time the US caught up with the rest of the world in this sense
