Bocoming entrepreneur at very young age

    HI,
I absolutely understand that children have many interests.

I just have no idea to encourage them to be entrepreneur and have their own business.

    some ideas are appreciated.

When I was 6, I started my first business selling comics and sports cards to the neighborhood kids. My mom supported me by making copies of fliers that I had made so I can put them in the mail boxes of surrounding neighborhoods (about 103 houses that were about 1-5 miles away from 3 schools). Also, I loved comics and sports cards.

But how I got initially interested in business was this "Junior Achievement" program. This is how my school educated us with business. That education went a long way and contributed to how I view business now.

    Hope this helps.

    Jaexavier,
I started similar. I collected basketball cards at age 8 or 9 and sold some of them. For me, my parents would not just buy whatever I wanted. They made me work for it. First lesson I learned is the value of a dollar. It wasn't until I read "Rich Dad Poor Dad" that my entrepreneurial spirit really started to kick in. Best thing I know a lot of teens have read that book and are now building online blogs, trading stocks, learning about business. I'm facing this right now. The question I'm asking is, what are kids interested in and then following that answer to where I can interest them in entrepreneurship.

Yes, I heard of Junior Achievement. There's also Future Business Leaders Of America (FBLA), and Network Foundation of Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Those are great places to get involved in.

I took all my neighbor's trash out at the age 10, they would pay 5 dollars a week, and well i loved it.

I think there just are some kids that are more entrepreneurial than others even if they are all exposed to the same influences.
I have worked at home for over 10 years and my brothers own their own businesses. I'd like to say that my 3 kids will want to take charge and be their own boss but if they would rather work for someone else, that that's what it will be. Whatever makes them happy

Just get them to do something productive, even learning a little on web design or something! Paper delivery is always a very popular one also. The way I did it was collect a type of mushroom that grows in my area, I use to take bags of them into the restaurants and sell them for a lot of money - this only took time and abit of knowledge of where to find them!

That's an amazing initiative! Make a website about something they and their friends like and try to make it popular. Then monetize it with Adsense, Affiliate Ads, and Banner ads.

I don't think you can necessarily teach a child or individual to love business, it must be a passion they have in the first place. If the student in your case has the passion to succeed in their endeavors then it is a simple task of just helping them when they come across obstacles and leading them into the correct direction. I am not sure if I answered your question though...

At a young age, the idea of entrepreneurship is more interesting than making money. The money part is just pocket money to buy video games etc, but doing something productive will have great impact for the future. Most children you start young end up being their own bosses when they grow up.

First of all I would recommend you to read articles about "how to raise children" rather than "how to raise mini-D.Trump's".
Everyone has different tastes, passions and desires, if you want to stick in his head the idea that entrepreneurship is good you'll be placing too much pressure on him and he may end up hating entrepreneurship.
Nevertheless, setting a good example is of course crucial and if they look up to you they will grow up wanting to be like you. Just let them know you are there for them and you can always give them advice. In other words just try to be a role model.
    Good luck being a Dad.

ever heard of the personality test? I don't think everyone was born to be an entrepreneur. Most are just fine with a job...not to mention our school system is taught by employees...how does an employee teach the young ones how to own a business?

Not sure when Dr. Phil joined YE, but ignore most of what he said. He obviously isn't here to help anyone out.

When I was young I picked hazelnuts and sold them on Main st. in my little town. My parents didn't encourage me to or even give me the idea. Being an entrepreneur has just been part of my life since I knew what money was. Maybe give them the idea of a lemonade stand or have them get rid of some old toys/clothes buy putting together their own garage sale (that's all stuff I used to do). The best thing you could do is, if they do come up with some entrepreneurial idea, just encourage the heck out of it. Hope this helps bud!
