Bill Gates recently said....
Thought you guys may like this:
Bill Gates' Wisdom
In a recent speech, Bill Gates, whether you love him or hate him, comes pretty close to hitting the nail on the head with this! To anyone with kids of any age, or anyone who has ever been a kid, here's some advice Bill Gates recently dished out at a high school about 11 things he did not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good politically correct teachings created a
full generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Here's what he said:
Rule 1: Life is not fair--get used to it.
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect
you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high
school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone, until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He
doesn't have tenure.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had
a different word for burger flipping----they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about
your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are
now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and
listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain
forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the
closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers but life has
not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you
as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the
slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and
very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. You have to
do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to
leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Awesome and true points. You can't expect to make it very far if you're not willing to work hard.
Bill Gates' high school was filled with playing with computers. I read a biography about Microsoft that has a yearbook picture of him sleeping beside a computer in a room that looks like a dungeon.

That was in a book, but it wasn't Bill Gates.
Here's a link to TruthOrFiction.com
It's still pretty good advice, however.

Bill Gates could probably pay the original author enough to keep quiet and take credit for those words himself.

E-Rumours!
Hehehe...that e-rumour got me too, good researchin' Dave.
I just had a friend forward that email to me today.
Thanks for the heads up, now I can let her know that Bill didn't say that but in fact it was from a book called: "Dumbing Down our Kids" by educator Charles Sykes.
Thanks again,
Adam T.

Listen, I believe in working hard and I 100% agree with life not being fair...but that whole speech is pretty negative. I mean, I know Bill Gates didn't say that just based on the fact that he founded Microsoft when he was 19...which was right out of high school. Yeah, it's not probable you'll make 40 grand right out of high school, but it's still possible (especially if you have a knack for sales).

Chris, true, it is negative. I am right in the high school generation (a little bit younger than you) and my friends think they will make a lot of money with very little work involved. This is SIMPLY false. Many friends think that stuff will just be handed to them, oh are they in for a suprise soon.

Hehe. I have to agree with that. I expected it to be handed to me, but boy was I in for a suprise. My dad told me to work for what I get and it did work, that's for sure.
