Best & Worst cities in the US to live in- and why?

    My Current City:
I live in DC and love it here. There is a ton of things to do. A lot of young people 25-30 most of which are working professionals. The night life is amazing... the resaturants are top noch. The one downside is the cost of living.

    My Favorite City:
My favorite city still has to be San Diego. I lived there from 1997-2001. The weather was awsome and there was more then enough to keep you busy. My favorite weekends consisted of getting up at 6am... driving to Big Bear Mntn. snow baording for 4-6 hours and then driving down to Huntington Beach for a bonfire... ahh I miss those days.

    The Worst City:
Philadelphia is by far the worst city I have ever lived in. I lived there for 4 months in 2006. During that time my tires were slashed three times. My ex's car was shot (litterally) while it was parked outside our house. I also had to take my land lord to court becuase the heat didn't work in a brand new townhouse. That plus the fact that its dirty and... well... before I start bashing the people I'll just say you could not pay me to ever move back there again.

So... what does everyone else think.. try and put some thought into this... don't just give us the name of the city... tell us why you are picking the city that you pick.

Well I have only lived in the south so here is my review of cities:

Charlotte, NC= now the number 2 financial capital of the united states. It feels like a very young city, both in people and in spirit. Weather is very nice, can be a little hot in the summer. A LOT of business opportunity here. Is growing at the rate Atlanta was 15 years ago.

Richmond, VA= Ok business opportunity. Very historical, very close to the beach and one hour away from Williamsburg. Population is staying stagnit, the future here does not seem as bright as other cities in the south. High crime areas. In the top 5 for murders in the United States.

I loved Atlanta, I am currently living in Texas and I like it too. Although, Texas should be it's own country (they do things so different here). I am from Ohio so Of course I love Cleveland but not right now. I like VA as well. PA (not for me, I have been there but don't plan on going back) southern states? Other than Texas I don't want to be there. NY is nice (upstate) There are just certain places I would rather live. I am more of a city girl with a country heart!

Pensacola Florida. Great town, I was there for 6 months in 1999, great beaches, good nightlife.

Biloxi Mississippi- 1999-2000 Ok town, junk beaches, if you are into gambling, its cool, but the town was pretty boring overall.

Hampton Roads VA, Norfolk, Va beach, Portsmouth. 2001-2003 Horrible in my opinion, the beaches were not very good, the police hate the military as do most of the local population, There was plenty to do there, but I wouldn't ever live there again.

St. Louis Mo, born and raised till 1998- Love this town, most people don't but I do. Plenty to do, Go CARDINALS. Has some rough areas, north city, and East St. Louis.

Carbondale Illinois- 2005-2008 Cool town for college if you like to party, I had a house in rural area and really had no complaints, the cost of living is very low, but jobs are not that great.

Columbus Indiana-2008 Love this town, and its still cold. Architecture is great around here, 40k people, if you can find a good paying job then its wonderful. They have everything here, very good eats, low crime, nice parks, I have no complaints and have been here 3 months so far

I grew up in NY, its ok, then lived in Florida, being a P.O for Miami was very cool, then did the Vegas thing, Hmmm now that home to me, then moved to New Orleans until a little rain storm had other ideas for the city, cool place, not my forte' but my wife calls it Home, Panama City was base camp for 6 months after Kartrina, now were in Hawaii, some call it paradise, I call it a rock 4500 miles in the middle of no where (Only paradise if you here for your Honeymoon.) They are all cool places. If you moved around alot anyone will tell you, they are all the same after awhile. Like the saying goes "the grass isnt always greener (hay I have never spelt greener before looks weird) on the other side.
    Peace to all

Georgia was a lovely place to live in but the only drawback was trying to find a job there.

I visited Detroit once and hated it - what a bleak place that is.

New York is my home town but it's expensive and crowded depending on where you live.
    Regards,

    Hope

Hampton Roads,Va- Always something to do, the police here do not hate military as most of them are retired military, nor does the civilian population as most are dependents. This whole place (7 cities) is built on the military. Perhaps you were breaking the law and the police just seemed to hate you.

Orange County, CA What's not to like? I love it here. Beautiful weather, lots of activities, close to the beach and the mountains.

I live in San Jose, CA

Men's Fitness magazine rated it the top healthiest city in California and 3rd healthiest city in the US. They said its the city where geeks pumps the most iron, lol.

St. Louis - Lived here my whole life so I can't compare any other cities...yet. I def. consider this place a diamond in the rough. The rough areas are very visible from the major highway I-70 (North STL and EAST STL) once you get past that though the rest of the area is great with semi-mountain ranges the west and everything else in between.

I'm still debating if I want to move somewhere else for a while, I want to but it will be a big hassle and I have an amazing career here. Ideally I want to move to California for awhile or maybe Dallas, Texas.
