Are you interested/active in politics?

How many of you take an interest in politics? (beyond the "how does this policy help small business?" mode )

As a kid I had some interest in politics, never active in it but always kept my eyes open to see what new developments there are. I feel that political and social developments are very important to understanding what the future holds for entrepreneurs - as we've seen during the different stages of the 50s, 80s, and 90s.

If you go to college you've probably noticed a great deal of political activity (and I'm not just talking bout the protestors ).

I'm not American, but I've always thought of the libertarians are my favourite party. I believe strongly in individualism with people encouraged to help each other, but I'm definitely opposed to the idea of enforcing the "helping hand" ideal.

What sort of interest do you take in politics? How important do you think politics is to your entrepreneurial career?

Cool Extremely Interested... and I got involved!

Well.... this may be a long story, so I'll try to summarize it:

Back in high school, I became friends with a guy named Aaron Taylor. His dad, Larry Taylor, is a realtor and former city councillor in Mississauga, Ontario. To make a long story short, Larry's getting into Federal politics now, running for the Mississauga Brampton-South NDP MP position.

I attended his nomination meeting, as I have become rather good friends with him (Larry) after working on the CondoProfiles project with him (another story... www.condoprofiles.com)

There wasn't too big of a turnout as it's a new riding and all. Somehow, Aaron was nominated by one of the attendees, while we were establishing the Executive, to be the Youth Officer. Aaron then nominated me to be the Press and Media Officer.

So that is my short story on how I got to be the Press and Media Officer of the Mississauga Brampton South NDP.

I am also very interested in politics. I try and attend PC (progressive conservative) events and meetings. I have been interested in politics for a very long time. I used to watch the polls at election time while the other kids watched power rangers!

I was once interested in politics- interested so much that I had heated political debates in class with my other classmates and we would never shut up.

Since then, I moved on to economics. I see lots of backstabbing and 'passing the buck' in the political arena that puts a bad taste in my mouth. There always seems to be a blame game or another politican personally insulting another. Even though everybody is different and have different ideas, I feel that the politicans in Washington D.C. should try to strip away some of their partisian comments and actions and work together more. We really cannot expect to get anything done when everyone does not work together to make something better.

I may just be too idealistic; if it sounds really idealistic, then that would not make me a great candidate for being active in politics. That's why I decided to leave politics alone and move on to economics. I do not want to say that economics is completely separate from politics- that would be a bad assumption. But I believe that economics is less partisan than real politics (hopefully)...

This is Canada mind you...

I used to be interested, until I had to deal with various levels of governments. I had a very serious issue that I was dealing with, and I tried to actively get different levels of government to either get involved, look into how this kinds of issues were dealt with, or to at least care. The levels ranged from the RCMP, the provincial government, the attorney general right up to the Prime Minister. (yes I contacted the Prime minister)

Final conclusion was if you have enough money, they have enough time.

Gotta love politicians, always looking out for the people they represent. (do I sound bitter?)
