    advice for networking

i am currently working at an international trading company that specializes in chemicals and polyester. i am working in a division of the company where i have no education in whatsoever. i have a degree in management, but i am working in the engineering dept w/ spreadsheets and databases. i took the job because it was the only one i could find within a moments notice and i needed the money. i would like to start my own import/export business one day and and working here can give me some knowledge. i have learned shipping, recieving, customs, payments, etc. the only problem i have is that the sales and marketing guys in my company are never around and they are who i would like to ask questions to pertaining to making deals. what should i be doing?
