    1 year anniversary...

So, tomorrow will be my stores 1 year anniversary. I can't believe it has already been 1 year, it flew by soooo fast. At the same time, its pretty crazy how different my life was only 1 year ago before we opened, and how much I have learned in that short period of time. So, how long has everyone else been in business..and what is your business?

Great! Retail is a tough road, at least it is in my town. People here have a tendency to bet everything on their unique little store, burn through their savings in a flash trying to keep the place afloat, and then end up with a For Lease sign in the window and a mountain of debt. Even worse, during the real estate boom this area was hugely overbuilt with retail spaces, and now those malls are vacant except for a primary tenant like a supermarket or a Home Depot. You'll have a bank, a Starbucks (closing soon), and maybe a couple little ethnic diners. The rest will be empty. Retail is so tough here that everybody knows somebody who ruined their life for a store, so nobody is willing to take the plunge. Then there's the ghost strip malls, whole malls surrounded by fencing. Anyway, in this environment you should be celebrating having survived the retail world for a year with your bank account and sanity intact.

Congratultions on your first year. Where I am from (toronto, ontario, canada) 60% of small buisiness die within the first year, and 45% of the remaining small buisiness don't last more then 5 years!

So here thats awsome, I have just started my buisiness. It hasn't even been a month yet. And yes its a clothing line!

Who said anything about still having my sanity? lol, that was lost in the first few weeks...But, yes...retail is a very hard business to be in at the moment. the last year has been tough on us..but we are still in business, so that's good. Hopefully we can make it through this economy, although it looks like we may have at least a few more rough years ahead...

Are you posting from a psychiatric hospital? If not, you have your sanity. Really-I've heard of people literally driven bonkers by running a retail store, especially when they realize that they have too much debt and no way to pay it. People want to save their "baby" at all costs, so they take on as much debt as they possibly can, and the business still folds, and then they're bankrupt. Be warned-if things suddenly go bad, know when to fold.

congrats on the one year. Its been one year for me too! I do notice a bit of a slowdown with people needing design work simply because people are cutting there advertising budgets!

I hope to own a brick and mortar store someday... I still have much to learn about that! good luck with this economy. Once we get this out of our systems there will be a boom time once more.

Happy Birthday to your stores. How I wish I have retail outlets...But its expensive here in Singapore. Thus, I think online stores are easier.

Anywayz, will be be the next 'wal-mart?
